Micky Lolitch's pitching performance was the best pitching ever by a pitcher in a world series . His brilliant pitching winning 3 games and 3 complete games yet on a couple of days rest will never be seen in baseball again . His great effort no doubt won the Tigers the World Series . Lolitch deserves to be in the HoF. ..He was masterful shutting down the mighty Cardinals I didn't see a relief pitcher taking warmups in the bullpen The Tigers began the year by winning so many games they were so far ahead of the next place team and stayed in 1st from day 1 to the world series Denny McCLain 's 31 wins in a season has never been broken in 56 years and will never be attained by a pitcher again

I watched this game in English class at Jackson High... Great memories!
This is the first time I’ve seen footage of that fateful inning which included the mis-play of Flood that opened the gates to the Cardinals’ loss. American Forces Radio broadcast the World Series overseas on shortwave radio at the time.I was living in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the time, eight time zones earlier than EST, and stayed up ‘til 4 or 5 in the morning to follow the game as an ardent 26 year old Cards fan. Thanks for the footage to replay what had only been in my imagination from the radio broadcast ‘til now.

Greatest game ever played. Gibson had struck out 17 the last time he’d faced Tigers. Tigers coming back from 3-1 game deficit. Epic.

Looked to me like Flood slipped because he misjudged the ball. Looked like he was coming in slightly while he def needed to be heading back. I think that's why he slipped.

Poor Flood, a terrible spot to lose his footing, especially for such a brilliant fielder.

I can still remember watching this game in my 8th grade class room. The teacher rolled in the TV on a big stand, pugged it in and let us watch for an hour.

That may have been the only time in his career Curt Flood misread a ball.

I grew up in Detroit and was in the fields near my house, building a tree house, when all of a sudden I starting hearing all these horns honking and I figured out it must have been the Tigers winning the series. I will always remember that day.

I LIVE IN DETROIT. I NEVER THOUGHT THEY WOULD PULL IT OFF. HOWEVER IN JANUARY OF 68 I REMEMBER DRIVING WITH MY MA IN OUR NEW CHRYSLER NEWPORT. SHE HAD THE RADIO ON AND I HEARD THAT VEGAS WAS PICKING THE TIGERS TO WIN THE WORLD SERIES IN 68. TURNED OUT THEY WERE RIGHT. AMAZING. DENNY MCLAIN WAS SUCH A GREAT PITCHER. I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. LOLICH WAS AMAZING AND I HEARD THAT WHEN HE WAS A KID A HARLEY FELL ON HIS RIGHT ARM AND HE LEARNED HOW TO THOW WITH HIS LEFT. THAT IS WHY HE BATTED RIGHT HAND. DONT KNOW IF IT IS A TRUE STORY, BUT THERE IT IS.

I’m 65, grew up in Detroit and this still my favorite World Series! Instead of MVP Denny McClain, beer-belly Mickey Lolich turned out to be the hero of the Series.

Even if Flood didn't slip he couldn't have caught that ball, it was too far over his head.

Curt Flood should have caught that.

Wow Harry Caray on the mic. Norm cash with no batting helmet against Bob Gibson. I was watching this game on the new tv's in my catholic grade school. For some reason the nuns decided to let us watch baseball while we did our in class work. Those were definitely "the days."

I was able to listen on my transistor radio. The principal would check in with me from time to time tto see who was winning..as I remember I think Micky Lolich was the big gun that year after McClain was the stud to get them there.

This is when baseball was baseball. No stupid pitch clocks, no replays on EVERY play on the base paths, and you were allowed to block the base runner sliding into a base.

My first World Series. I was a 1st grader in the Chicagoland area. We were in a car pool. I couldn't wait to get home to catch what I could of the afternoon games in this Series. This was an awesome time to be a kid. No adults bothering us about gays, lesbians, and trannies. You could just be a kid and watch baseball!
