Scott’s dad had passed away, and his mom found out she had cancer. She changed jobs to make a better salary to have more money for his coaching. It was obvious what he had. And she was going to do all she could. He was adopted, and blessed to be raised with love. And he has the most loving heart I’ve seen. There will never be another Scott Hamilton. Now in competition there’s a lot more ‘flash and show’. But his pure skating; passion and perfection won’t be surpassed.

How can a human spin that fast then stop on a dime, make an elegant arm gesture and not puke. What an athlete and an artist.

That's it..."he shows his enjoyment for skating better than anyone else I know". It's so important for an artist to love what they're doing, to bring the audience in to them. He was the best, never been bettered at it.

Scott always skates with the ebb and flow of the music so that his movements always have meaning and artistry. I saw little of that in the 2022 Olympics where it was more about stringing a bunch of quad jumps together.

Great video about Scott Hamilton. Very insightful. The music playing in the background for some of the clips is "Telegraph Road" by Dire Straits. That's really cool. Scott has always been one of my favorite ice skaters. I used to watch ice skating and gymnastics when I was younger. Still do even now. Scott does the best backflip on ice that I have ever seen. Awesome performer and amazing person. 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Interesting that he did three triple toes, which I believe was not allowed beginning that season (due to the "Zayak Rule" implemented following the 1982 season). He also did two triple salchows, neither of which was in combination, which again was in violation of the Zayak Rule (repeating a triple requires one of them to be in combination).
@elizabethcorbett79682 жыл бұрын
Hello, I think the second "triple toe loop" he did in that program, which had a split jump and footwork proceeding it, was a jump called a triple toe walley....which was allowed to be counted as an entirely different jump at that time. Slight variation on takeoff of jump. Other skaters at the time did this to get around the zayak rule. I think they changed that in 1984 to count toe walleys and toe loop jumps to be the same jump. That may be why Scott added the triple Flip jump in 1984 in lieu of the second triple toe loop he did in this program. As for the triple salchow....they allow jump combos or jump sequences, which includes footwork etc between the jumps. So if you check the first triple salchow he did, it had footwork after it followed by a double jump. So it looks like it was counted as a jump sequence. For more info, see Scott Hamilton's comments below on his 1984 training , where he explains that walley jump.... source here.... www.britannica.com/topic/Olympic-training-760104 "My four-and-a-half-minute program featured five triple jumps-salchow, toe loop, toe walley (a slight variation on the toe loop), flip, and lutz. "

I have always loved Scott. He's a wonderful person. However, you could not even make it to worlds at all with this performance, let alone win a title. 12 year olds can do a triple axel now and back in the early 80s only a handful of men and zero women could do one. It's surprising because equipment hasn't changed. The quality of skating has just improved so much over the last 40 years.
