@RoadsofEuropeverreme5 күн бұрын
@Ecdjz5 күн бұрын

8:06 Oh no... Not *these* kinds of bike lanes... About 2 weeks ago a child doctor died on one of these bike lanes in Philadelphia city center because an impatient driver went around a slower car through the bike lane at high speed and struck her. She was only 30 years old. The bike lane was unprotected in one of the densest part of the city due to corrupt politics and selfish drivers wanting to park in front of their house. The street was not design for cars and the bike lane is one of the busiest in the city, so you frequently see cyclists having to go on the car lane to go around a vehicle parked on the bike lane. 15:59 Why are they against the train-tram project (that description makes it feel like a gimmicky project)?
@RoadsofEuropeverreme7 күн бұрын
Yes these bike lanes are the worst. My guess about why they are there is because they were implemented by the local city council which have a very limited budget so they wanted to do something visible at the cheapest possible cost. As for the tram, the city of Salou has many objections from the presence of the overhead wires to the fit of the proposed route within the local urban planning. It is a much-needed project that will relive two disused railways but it is dragging on for so long that I start thinking that Generalitat de Catalunya may actually not want to build the whole thing and will be keen to blame it on disagreements with local governments or other minor inconveniences like they have done with so many other schemes.

Update on this video as of 2024 The section of M7 between Naas and the M9 has now been widened to 3 lanes each way. There is also now a new junction (9A) and junction 10 has been moved slightly from its old location to the next bridge along.

@RoadsofEuropeverreme15 күн бұрын

@RoadsofEuropeverreme17 күн бұрын

Valencia is often labelled as one of the greater cities in the urbanist circles, but I hate the first minutes of video. Such a beautiful urban park and yet it's surrounded by multi-lane monstrosities and so much parking (still far from American levels, but on-street parking on these stroads is unusual to say the least). Fairly certain the pedestrian experience is 2 short stages of danger with a great time in-between.

90 km/h "crawl"? Lol. Sure, it's not the convenient speed limit (although usually over because of course), but a crawl is a bit stretching it. 26:28 How's the traffic on CV-18 by comparaison?
@RoadsofEuropeverremeАй бұрын
That was obviously an exaggeration, though driving conveyor-belt style on a freeway feels like crawling as you don't really feel the speed. As for road CV-18, I cannot find any traffic counts.

14:30 Same reason why Poland is building a lot of expressways that have the exact same inter-city function as an autostrada. Not the same political baggage, even though they're both equally destructive for the environment. This is the kind of situation where the most effective solution is the one people will accept the least: just don't live there. Second best option is to keep the road as is, when only talking about environment.
@RoadsofEuropeverreme3 ай бұрын
At least the Poles delivered a real upgrade for the traffic conditions. In the case I'm showing here drivers are getting almost nothing and the environment has still been very compromised.
