It's also important to remember: we have no idea how to get ti AGI, be can hardly even agree on what AGI is. So people/companies are just trying to make AI work for more generic applications. Is that a problem ? Probably not. However, the amount of progress that was made in the past few years has spooked a bunch of experts and the general public. Does this mean there is a danger now ? The answer is no, but we also don't know how to get there, so we also don't really know how to prepare for it or how to deal with it.

Hi. Would data science/analysis be a safe future proof career to pursue?
@JamieBykovBrett4 ай бұрын
Good question. I think it is really difficult to say that any career is 'future proof'. I don't think it will exist in the same way it does now, but extracting meaningful insights from data for business is a career that is primed for AI assistance. However, there will be a human component to the career. I believe the future should not deter anyone from pursuing the things they find meaningful, as these aspects will adapt and change to fit the era they exist in. For data science, I would definitely recommend gaining a foundational understanding of AI and how to leverage those tools. Even if your job is not taken by AI, it will be taken by someone who knows how to use AI.
@TheFallenStrider4 ай бұрын
@JamieBykovBrett So in this instance, it will be more useful to build around ai and learning it
@JamieBykovBrett3 ай бұрын
The real money is where you find the intersection between two diverse fields. If you learn how AI can enhance the role of a data scientist/analyst, then you've got a step up on people who have been in the field for years but might not understand the advancements in technology. Essentially, why not learn both? Using generative AI will become an essential digital skill; not having it will be the equivalent of going for a job interview today and saying you don't know how to search the web or send an email. You don't need to have studied AI to leverage generative AI for practical uses, and you don't have to understand it in great detail to use it, in the same way you don't have to have studied IT to use the internet.

Goldman Sach's research says Generative AI could raise global GDP by 7% & lift productivity growth by 1.5 percentage points over a 10-year period. Two thirds of occupations could be partially automated by AI the equivalent of 300 million full-time jobs to automation. When I say machines and AI I am highlighting digital advancements. When I consult for organizations, even at this point in time I ask them 3 questions, is it at the level of an intern to do, is it repetitive and does it involve text. If the answer to any one of those is yes, then the chances are there is a suitable AI solution that we can utilize or create. Personally, I automate 20 business processes, which collectively complete around 2000 tasks per month, if each tasks takes me 2 minutes that means approximately if saves me about 1.6 weeks every month. That's not in the future, that's the here and now. Please do share any data that you are utilizing to shape your evaluation of AI and I'll give it a read.
@thecrabmaestro56411 ай бұрын
@@JamieBykovBrettyou're referring to an AI era, but AI isn't at a point where it is sentient/can make decisions for itself because it is a generative text prediction model. Machines can be programmed to fulfill tasks, as has been happening for years, but everything in the end has to be set up by a human. Utilising AI in the way that you're suggesting wouldn't work and therefore wouldn't be profitable, so big companies will revert to humans in wage slavery. We'd need massive social reforms for any of this to be true, or possible. Also, if we do decide that jobs that can be facilitated by text generation models will be fulfilled by them, humans will be put out of so many jobs that we would enter yet another recession.
@JamieBykovBrett11 ай бұрын
@@thecrabmaestro564 So, I think there's a bit of clarity required around the term "AI Era." AI, in this context, refers to the capability of machines, both digitally and physically, to perform tasks that would have previously required humans. The AI era, from this perspective, does not signify the point of singularity where AI is as intelligent or more intelligent than human beings. There is a lot of debate about whether AI can ever truly be sentient, as sentience and consciousness themselves are concepts we have difficulty defining. Historically, when "AI" reaches a certain level of capability, we stop referring to it as AI. I'd argue that "AI" is the wrong term anyway, as there is nothing inherently intelligent about "AI." However, if you look at my other content (particularly on inclusive AI), you'll see that what I advocate for is that with our growing technical capabilities, we must advance our political, economic, and social models to accommodate these developments. I agree that we can't maintain the same economic models with AI underpinning our society. However, I do believe AI will underpin our society, changing how we participate in the world, necessitating advancements in our economic models to accommodate this changing participation. This is similar to how, from the agricultural revolution to the industrial revolution, we went from 80% of all jobs being agriculturally based to less than 20% 60 years later. Technology drives change, but technology that doesn't consider the holistic impact of its introduction risks causing economic catastrophes. It's worth noting that even today, 92% of stock trades are conducted by AI systems. I appreciate your thoughts and agree with many of them, I hope that comes across from the depth of my reply.

@JamieBykovBrett Жыл бұрын
I passionately reject the notion that AI makes us less intelligent. Our progress as a civilisation is rooted in our ability to draw upon the collective knowledge and experience of those who have come before us; we stand on the shoulders of giants. The issue with current education systems is that they primarily focus on providing students with industrial education for a digital workforce, rather than teaching them how to effectively utilise technology to succeed in the digital economy. As the late Ken Robinson stated, "Human communities depend upon a diversity of talent, not a single conception of ability. At the heart of the challenge is to reconstitute our sense of ability and of intelligence." Let's also not forget that education had always been inequitable, with a significant difference in the access to and use of technology. My vision is that we should aspire to build a society that accommodates individuals regardless of their ability or level of participation and that respects individuals' autonomy to the extent that which the decisions of others have minimal impact on our lives and freedoms. This would result in a more resilient society, which can easily accommodate the vast range of lived experiences, neuro-abilities, and bodily-abilities, and reduce marginalisation. This is achievable through AI technology and automation, to the extent that which it can provide a basic standard of living regardless of participation. Surely, that was the aim of technology, to begin with, to reduce cost and labour while enabling us to have greater freedom and autonomy over our time. Conversely, my experience is that, when people are asked what they would do if money wasn't a consideration, most people have aspirations for projects and pursuits that promote social good, for the benefit of communities and work on self-betterment. It is crucial that we evolve our mindset and socio-economic models alongside technological advancements as we transition into the digital revolution. I hope that's a useful perspective. :)
@honestlywhocaresanymoremcm314 Жыл бұрын
@@JamieBykovBrett It is, yes, but the unfortunate reality is that human greed will always exist, and so inequity will as well. Science always evolves faster than human morals and wisdom. Instead of investing in programs that further science, I am of the opinion that we are going too fast to know how the development of science will effect society as a whole. A utopian solution never works when the society developing that solution is fundamentally flawed.
