I always thought Leslie Howard was handsome. Sophisticated, gentlemanly, and handsome.

I can not get out of the Swamp of Scarlett, Vivian all day long.

A woman today wouldn’t know how to wear a hooped dress to full effect. In the book it said Scarlet taught herself to walk pigeon toed to get the bell effect in the sway of her skirt. Dancing would be another feat to accomplish with all that material and circumference to produce a pretty effect. Upper class girls would tight lace their corsets to reduce their waist as much as possible including wearing them at sleep also .. much the same as our modern day socialites do extreme things to their bodies to be better than the next girl. Small feet were also prized so jamming them into too small shoes was also common. Make up was only for “dyed haired” women so pinching the cheeks to produce a rosy glow was done. And she only had a couple short years between “coming out” to marriage to accomplish this. Marriage of course relegated her to the dowager class and it was all over. Scarlet was not only a dowager but a widow and mother at 16. Life was basically over for her till Rhett made her dance at the bazaar lol.

I definitely think,"Gone with the Wind" was in itself a Hit, because of casting Vivian Leigh & Rhett Butler to play the Leading Roles of Scarlett O'Hara & Rhett Butler .The Chemistry between the two was Everything. IT was the kind that could of started the Fire that burned down the Town. And of course the Love Triangle with Ashley added to fuel the flame. Still, it just wouldn't have been as wildly 🔥 successful and the Legend that IT Still is To This Day because of the Two. To me it's a kind of "Pride & Prejudice" rendition set two hearts a fire. I wonder that there will ever be anything to ever top this Cinematic Classic. To date I haven't seen it yet. 😍🎬❤️‍🔥

Vivien Leigh was indeed beautiful but that in itself is not enough to make her perfect in the part of Scarlett. What she combined with that beauty is an acting performance that doesn't feel mannered or dated even today. If they had chosen Paulette Goddard or, God forbid, Norma Shearer the film would not have stood the test of time like it has. She was a consumate actress who just happened to be stunningly beautiful as well.
