This song would have you believe that George III made the decisions that angered the colonists leading up to the Revolutionary War, but he didn't; by that point in time, the British Government had restructured to where the Prime Minister was calling the shots, and the crown would have little to no say on the matter. Good song, though.

“No one’s gonna tell us what to do.” Israel: “Please give us forty bajillion dollars. The USS Liberty incident never happened.” USA: “Of course, Israel, our oldest and greatest ally.” Also, while this song is catchy and School House Rock is usually correct, this song is 100% USA propaganda. George III was more than justified in taxing the colonies, having just fought a war to protect their borders that they didn’t have the manpower to fight themselves. Great Britain was close to broke after this war and was taxing themselves even more to support the colonies. The one colony that went through the proper avenues to get representation in Parliament, Virginia, got to have agents (like Ben Franklin) allowed to sit in on Parliament. While the House of Burgesses wasn’t wrong to say “no taxation without representation,” they weren’t right to think it was worth going to war over. Being taxed in this case was more than justified after the colonies were saved by England from being conquered. Of course this song paints the USA in only a positive light, but the truth is far more nuanced, and it’s hard to not side with the Brits on this one. End of the day, probably good that the US got independence, but it wasn’t justified.

I just wanna comment its crazy how one day the colonies were just fed up, and then hillbillies, farmers, and people who have never even had a gun before defeated a superpower because we were just so done.
