I bought one of these filled it up and put it in a pack for when I needed it, I came to need it and nothing... I had filled it up a week before and it appeared to be completely empty when I needed it and I thought "What a piece of crap" and threw it in my toolbox.

After doing this what sort of usage do you get out of a single refill of the insert? I'm looking into getting one of these inserts but won't bother if the gas is going to run out super quickly.

This IS a bit crazy. You HAVE to do this fix out of the box, really Zippo? But hey luckily this fix totally works. You really come to trust companies like Zippo since they are a Made In The USA company. It just goes to show the "new America" I guess.

You were right... its a piece of trash. I bought one and i have no intention of repairing it. I threw it away as it was junk! Bck in the day, there weren't too many options available to light a cigarette or cigar or pipe. Matches were readily available anywhere. I only remember Zippo and Ronson. It was "cool " to have a Zippo. There were no Bic disposable lighters. I have some Bic's coming in this week and i will either be happy with them as they are very dependable, or i'm going back to basics...matches!

It looks awfully complicated and totally unreliable. The "fixes" I suggest are: 1) Do not buy a chinese-made butane Zippo, buy an original made in Bradford USA wick Zippo, and 2) Whenever you are dismantling anything esp. teeny-weeny components ALWAYS USE A RECEPTACLE to temporarily store the parts lest you accidentally knock them irretrievably loosing them after already spending half the day on your knees looking for them around the floor with a magnifying glass.

i got a brand new one, even with your video, several others and a few decent suggestions from various forums i STILL cant get this thing to light even give a consistent torch flame, i love zippo im a avid collector and a huge fan so i understand everyone giving this thing the benefit of the doubt and a million chances but lets face it, its a piece of shit, zippo makes a hell of a naptha lighter but all 3, the yellow flame and single and double barrel blue flame lighters are fucking junk... anyhow thanks for the video, cheers

Tried everything you say, 5 X still not working. Absolute waste of money, and real rubbish fit for nothing. Get it to light (sometimes) with the flame of a BIC lighter. You need a cheap lighter to light an expensive world renowned lighter. LOL

Does this also work for the soft yellow flame butane insert? I have the same problem, but this model still has a flint and doesn't have the flame height adjust, the screw is to remove the flint on this one.

I've no idea where my previous comment went but perhaps someone didn't like my opinion. Firstly, thanks for showing the inner workings of the lighter and how to remove the metal and rubber 'limiter' things. Secondly, apart from learning how to fix things together, this is completely unnecessary for many who own this lighter insert. I've just nearly broken mine doing all this, all for the sake of learning how to do it! Maybe the cheap crappy Butane isn't good enough but I had to bleed the lighter and refill more than once. I was getting hissing and all sorts but then I realised I probably wasn't using the Butane lighter refill properly 😂. The last time I was much more forceful in the filling stage and it started working again .... albeit no matter how much to the + direction on the adjustment, I was not getting an 'obnoxiously huge' flame like you were getting ... I want an obnoxiously huge flame 😂

Had one that lights fine outside of the case. Piezo shorts against metal! Put a small slip of paper to line the bottom of the case-reinsert the insert and it works great. Electrical path of piezo spark going towards case instead of butane. If you put the insert on piece of metal it stops working, pick it up in your hand it works.

Hey pulp, i had a double flame butane insert, that was not worked when recieved & after watching your video i able to fix it. But after a month & so it stopped working, So i again use the trick & the limiter pop out, lol took me 2 day's to find the limiter from my room, i refit it fill it but didn't start, I thought maybe the gas might be escaping, so i fill it & left for a day but forget it bcoz of work, and check after a week, the gas was there, so it's holding the gas not leaking or anything, The lighter spark every time, that means that ok too, but I didn't able to smell the gas, nor hear hissing sound when keep pressing the Ignition button. Can you please help me what to look for, why it's not working,
