I was nothing like my cousin Mike salido I’d bend pedals and rims that’s why we ran tuff wheels and aluminum pedals at that time

This brings back some great memories when I raced in Tucson in the late 70s and early 80s. I still remember the "downhill" track we raced on at Randolph / Reid Park. Mr Lee was at the start gate and his son raced a GT, man was he fast. I wish I still had my ABA number plate from back then. If only my GJS A-Frame hadn't been lost in the moves from city to city my parents did. I'd love to have the frame today. What a great era!

It’s not true that all the parts were made in Chicago. Frames and wheels were made in the factory in Chicago but some hubs, brakes, and pedals were made in Europe.

Wow, I can’t believe after all these years Bob Osborn still remembered me. I am “that little kid named CRITTER of the Arvada Street Gang “ @ 7:50. I was only 7 years old, but I remember I made a good impression with him cause I showed up at the dirt lot in Entradaro Park with two shovels and a garden hoe. Those were good times to be a kid. No stress, no smartphones and rainbows weren’t gay. Mr. Osborn, I hope you’re doing well. Where is R. L. Osborn? C. Reiman ... Still living on Arvada

I grew up riding/racing in other places. But then I moved to Redondo Beach then to Entradero Ave. and I'd always go shoot hoops at that park.

Land locked Midwest kid here... We were doing things then as well. The West Coast of course got most of the publicity which is deserved of course. It was a magical time really. I can still remember the feeling of it all.

I was born in East L.A. in 1968, I bought my BMX bike from my friend in 6th grade, a Mongoose, had an ABA membership and raced at Monrovia. The only name I knew of any of these "pioneers" was Bob Osborn. I subscribed to Bicycle Moto X Action and I remember R.L Osborn and Mike Buff as well as the many factory riders like Stu Thompson, Bob Haro, Harry Leary, Tinker Juarez, Toby Henderson, etc.

My Grand Son now rides the same Mongoose I rode in 1976. Sure, I could've bought him a new bike yet where's the fun in that? And when he turns 16, he gets my 1978 Camero I bought for $600 in 1981.

I just got back in to BMX racing this year. I’m now 48 years old. Last time I had raced was in ‘91. The tracks of today are far more technical and aggressive than yesteryears, which is great. I’m having a blast!

It is a shame what has become of Schwinn today, in 1970 we were building our own bikes from Schwinn frames at age 10 I respoked my own rims drilling out my hubs and putting in thicker spokes

My friends and I did the same thing you did at the same time as you. We made tracks in any vacant field in Anaheim with our stingrays with 10 speed seats and our old dirt bike handle bars. We never knew about escape country BMX track. The first BMX track we knew of was Coal Canyon BMX track in Yorba Linda. One of the guys that was part of our gang was Jerry Welchel. He went on to racing trucks and buggy’s. We had a blast!

A little later in time, about 1979-1982 I raced Redline Proline. Still can’t walk into a bike shop without thinking back to my first Redline. That part of growing up. Too bad you can’t relive our childhoods.

I just ran over pop cans and with knobby tires it would catch on the tire and wedge between the frame bars and would sound like a loud dirtbike engine.

Absolutely killer! I didn't have welding skills, so I just used a broomstick and a can of spray paint to fashion a top tube on my old Schwinn. Hopefully some rebellious kids look at this and get that fire in their bellies. God knows this generation needs them.
