Thank you for the inspiration! Looks like the ultimate dirt bike shop setup, love it. One question re the valve grinding kit; Is this something you think someone can do by themselves in their own shop, and get acceptable results? What is the name of your kit and what is the price? I have looked at the Neway cutters before, but this looked like stone grinding? I live in a country where there really isnt any shop that does valve seat cutting jobs on motorcycles, and I like the idea of being self sufficient. I have experience doing engine rebuilds, crank rebuilds, a bit of revalving and lots of service of suspension in the past.

Valve grinding is pretty technical & there is a fair bit to know. If you’ve rebuilt cranks with good results you have the technical aptitude to grind valve seats. The problem with the Neway cutter is that it’s almost impossible to get a concentric seat because you’re cranking the tool with your wrist. This Sioux kit is several thousand dollars but I bought part of it used.

@ChuckfromTrueTech Thank you. Yes, thats what I also have heard about the Neway. Guess I will be on the lookout for something used, and maybe start with a already ruined head for practice.

When you see these vids you have to remember a billion dollar company put millions into research and development, if it was good design feature it would be in the original design !

How many flywheel pullers do you have /need? Do all the brands Ktm/Husky/Gas gas / Beta /then the Japanese bikes use bike specefic pullers ?
@ChuckfromTrueTech8 сағат бұрын
I’ve probably got 30 of them but there 2 that I use on 90% of engines.

One thing I would recommend is taking stock of how often you use items in relation to how valuable the space is. I audit my shop often, and when I stop and rate the importance of areas (for instance, the zones nearest entryways, or at my bench) I often find things like your imperial wrenches. When considering how valuable that space is in my head, then look at the stuff I keep in that space, it makes deciding on what needs to move easy. Oh! and for the clear bins of fasteners, its really quick and easy to take a piece of packing tape and tape whatever is in that bin to the front of it from the inside, then you can visually see what the item is!

Sounds like you’ve put some effort into your own space.

I order it from a metal shop. A 4x8 sheet sheared in half & bent 1” up in the back & 1” down in the front.

Very, very cool to see. Your knowledge and multiple skills revealed through your layout, tools, parts etc. I suspect bigger is not always better for a one person bike shop but it seems you could use more room for storage?
@ChuckfromTrueTech16 сағат бұрын
I need more room for disassembled parts & inventory. I’d also like a TIG, more room for bits & tooling & about 2’ wider. Otherwise this space is ideal for a one man shop.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to invest in a drill press. For one you have more control to put the hole where you want it and two you wouldn't have damaged your ?thumb skin?

Why would I buy a drill press when I have a milling machine?
@mp675616 сағат бұрын
@ChuckfromTrueTech Then the real questions is. Why would you use a drill motor if you have a milling machine?
@mp675616 сағат бұрын
@ChuckfromTrueTech I don't watch your channel. I stumbled across a short of a guy hacking two holes in the side of a piston with a dill motor, smaching flesh between a drill chuck and what looked to be a new piston held in his hand. He did this after reading a card that suggested a 5/64 dill size. Then, he used a countersink held in his hand to remove what I assume was a nasty bur from the holes that had walked off center, before rubbing a stone sloppily around the hole scratching the coating on the skert. Forgive me, I thought I was making a suggestion to a guy in his garage butchering a piston. Getting sarcastic with a viewer that made a light-hearted comment based on your video isn't a great way to gain viewership. If you need some real machine work done, call a professional.

@ChuckfromTrueTech19 сағат бұрын
They’re just a transient collection from years of wrenching. Sometimes I buy common fasteners on Amazon.

Im super confused here, one whats with the lines drawn on the head, two did he mean oil or premix would come thru the holes, and three how is anything going to go go thru the holes...as the piston comes down its going to create pressure also around piston walls which i would think is higher than crank pressure so I would think it would push air the other way if anything and also there shouldnt be so much oil your piston dips into it right?

Have a look at the reel I did a few days ago on how a 2 stroke works.
@Tomshuski35023 сағат бұрын
If I do this what will happen if I go to far and the chain gets to tight will it break the chain or gears?
@ChuckfromTrueTech22 сағат бұрын
It will cause accelerated wear on the chain & timing gears.
@Tomshuski35021 сағат бұрын
@ ok 👍 I think I’ll leave it where is it as today when I went to start it it only ticks for about 3 seconds when cold I’m guessing until it makes oil pressure once it’s warm it doesn’t tick at all I’m definitely going to invest in a dirt tricks tensioner. I love your content by the way and that’s for the help 👍

Bro you need to keep super glue on hand for moments like this. Get the bleeding to slow down slap a little glue on it hit it with a bit of water it'll instantly harden. Go back to work.
