I believe it's not possible to save a report with a specific searched item, is it? Example Use case: I have a report of the events in my app. I want to filter out every event that starts with "practice_". If I save the report, everything is saved, except the search filter. Using the filter option doesn't show the option to filter out by event name

I am wondering if this can be done with a stacked bar chart. I use it it a lot for work but my coding skills are somewhat limited.

Hi Stephen! I used a World Bank data (GDP simplified to 15 countries and clean) to repeat your Summarize steps, and absolutely nothing worked! It's the first time in so long that I've seen the chat rave. He simply ignored the data and gave me a summary that had nothing to do with my selected countries. I tried in several ways, restarting the conversation from scratch with different prompts, indicating in detail what the data was about and it remained lost...

Hi Stephen! Thx so much! I learned a lot 😊 I was just curious further about feeding wireframes. I can build out interfaces with html/css and wondering if instead of uploading a wireframe image, could I just upload a zip file containing the website files and ChatGPT could somehow figure out where to insert the code needed with the design. Thanks!

Google runied GA with version 4
@stephentracy
@stephentracy 2 ай бұрын
I get the sentiment/frustration. The transition to GA4 from UA has been rocky and the Google product team definitely sacrificed a lot of ease-of-use for advanced measurement features that only power users need. It's unfortunate, but at the same time, the learning curve to make sense of and get value from GA4 is still probably lower than moving to a paid alternative.

Watched a 10 minute video and still no answer for how to show monthly granularity! Disappointing from Google ☹
@stephentracy

Unfortunately Google hasn't released support for monthly charts yet (no idea why), and you can only apply hourly, daily or weekly granularity to charts in data explorations. But seeing as the "monthly" option is available (but ghosted), I think it will be available at a later date

Great video! Thank you. Is there anyway to customize the overview cards (not overview reports)? Say eg. you want to add (or delete) another metric next to "New users" at the overview card shown at 2:45. Is that possible?

Thank you for the informative video. So is there a way to edit the overview summary cards (The one with time series data with multiple metrics on the top, at the top of overview pages). Or create similar summary cards for my custom overview report?
@stephentracy
@stephentracy 4 ай бұрын
Thanks, and my pleasure. Regarding your question, I’m not quite sure if you’re referring to editing the "overview report" cards or the charts found at the top of the "detail reports", so I’ll cover both here. But the short answer is yes, there is some customisation that can be done (but it’s limited). 1) Editing charts in detail reports - You can customize the charts that appear at the top of a “detail report” via the right side menu (that appears when you're editing a report). So after you create (or edit) a detail report, look to the right side menu and scroll down to “CHARTS”. From here, you can change the chart type (i.e. line, bar or scatter) and you can choose whether to display 1, 2 or no charts. That’s basically it, it’s pretty limited. However, one question I get asked a lot is how to display a line chart that only shows a single line / data-series. By default, line charts will display a line / data-series for each attribute of the dimension selected (e.g. one line for each page on your site, etc) which can be frustrating. There’s a hacky way to solve this which is to use a dimension with only a single attribute. For example, try editing the report, click on Dimensions > add dimension and search for the dimension called “Year”. If your date range is within a single calendar year then the chart will only display a single line. Another dimension you can consider using is “Stream name” as this will only have a single attribute unless you’ve created multiple data streams under your property. 2) Creating custom cards for overview reports - Another option is to create custom cards, which are displayed on the “overview reports”. However, these are first created via the detail reports. To do this, got to Library > Create detail report, then add the metrics and dimensions you want. Once this is done, scroll to the bottom of the right side menu where it says “Summary cards” and click “Create new card”. From here you can create custom cards which have more visualisation options than the charts on the detail report. Once you create a card, you need to make sure that you add the detail report to a published report collection. Once that’s done, go and create an overview report, and you should be able to add your custom cards to it. I wrote a step by step article about this on my website as well, which you can view here: analythical.com/blog/custom-reports-in-google-analytics-ga4 I hope this helps, but let me know if you have any more questions.

This video was great! Where would I post my surveys?
@stephentracy
@stephentracy 4 ай бұрын
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. On your question, I assume you mean where to post it to get survey responses, and not what tool to use to build your survey? If so, then there are a few ways to get responses, but the first and most important thing is to start by defining your target audience, as this may impact where you source responses. Once you've defined your target audience, you can consider the following places to get respondents: 1) Panel providers - This will require you to have a material budget (usually at least $2K or more, but this is usually the easiest/fastes way to get survey responses at scale. Some of the global firms that provide online samples include Pollfish, Dynata, and Toluna (but there are many more) 2) CRM / customer database - If you work at a company that has a customer database / email contact list, you can consider blasting the survey to your customers. You may need to consider offering an incentive to encourage survey completes. 3) Social media - You can try publishing your survey on social networks like Facebook and X/Twitter. Depending on the size of your audience, you can also put a small budget aside to boost your post as a way to get more survey responses. 4) Online forums / communities - You may be able to find targeted responses via online forums, Reddit or Discord communities. You may need to consider offering an incentive to encourage users to complete the survey (e.g. a small reward for everyone, or a chance to win a bigger reward, etc). Also, if you post on reddit forums check the community guidelines or with the admins first to make sure you're allowed to do so.

Do not use chat gpt to run your data analysis. For the love of god, make it write you python code! No spss needed! And you avoid the language model hallucinating datapoints (it absolutely will!)
@stephentracy
@stephentracy 4 ай бұрын
@krazoe6258 Yes, I use ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, and Codellama and to write code, where I often leverage Python libraries like pandas, nltk, etc. But you don’t always need to write a python script for every DA/DS use case. In fact, in some cases you might end up spending more time troubleshooting code with ChatGPT than writing your own code or just feeding it data. So there are plenty of cases where you may want to upload data and have GPT-4 interrogate a data file, and then there are cases where you’ll want it to write code. Both can work.

@@stephentracy We might come from different backgrounds here. I've just handed in my doctoral thesis, and for one of the analyses I thought I would try chat gpt. But I of course also did the same analysis in python and got totally different beta coefficients. Most likely, chat gpt hallucinated some data or whatever. But if you don't need the results to always be 100% accurate, by all means, go ahead. I'm not the data analysis police

Thanks so much for this. Can you add custom explorations into a report? At the moment I have loads and they all just sit in "Explore". I'd like to add them to the cards or reports or something.
@stephentracy
@stephentracy 4 ай бұрын
Unfortunately no, at this time there's no way to bring your explorations into the standard reports. I also think it's unlikely Google will add this fucntionality becuase these tools leverage different types of data (i.e. Explore leverages user/event level data, while Reports leverage aggregated data). That said, I'm hopeful that the GA product team will roll out better organization and foldering features for explorations in the future, and perhaps some dashboarding functionality as well.

Unbelievable. I've been looking for a way to change granularity for weeks. Thanks a lot for this tip, even if this incomplete. I still don't understand why GA4 lacks so much features from UA, but it's a massive disappointment...

@stephentracy 4 ай бұрын
You’re welcome. And yes, a lot of people aren’t happy with GA4 in its current state. There are a lot of cool things you can do with its new measurement model, but the product team at Google really dropped the ball on ease of use and basic functionality like chart granularity. I have another video on my channel about customising reports that may also be of interest to you.

Great video, thanks. How do you display data weekly?
@stephentracy
@stephentracy 5 ай бұрын
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video On weekly charts, unfortunately you can’t change the granularity of charts in the Reports section at this time. But you can do this in the Explore table builder. I have a video and blog post on this coming out soon, but in the meantime here are the steps to follow: 1. Click on Explore from the left side menu 2. Click “Blank” to create a new data exploration 3. Under the “Variables” column, scroll down to “METRICS”. Click the + sign, then on the next screen you can use the search bar at the top to search for a metric (or metrics) that you want to add. Try searching for “sessions”, then check the box to the left of the metric and click Import (in the top right corner). 4. Now look to the “Settings” column. Under “VISUALISATION” click on the Line chart option (it will default to the table view). Once you choose line chart, you should notice some of the options in this column change. 5. Under “GRANULARITY” you can now select the desired chart frequency (i.e. hour, day, week, month). Since you’re interest in weekly data, select “Week” from the drop down list. Again, if you can’t see the “GRANULARITY” option it’s likely because you haven’t selected Line chart under “VISUALISATION” 6. Now scroll toward the bottom of the “Settings” column, and under “VALUES” select “Sessions” (or whatever metric you imported). 7. Now a chart will appear with your weekly data. Note that you can change the granularity any time if you want to aggregate up to monthly, or drill down to daily or hourly. 8. You can also add multiple time series to your chart by adding dimensions to the “BREAKDOWNS” section. I hope this helps. I’ll update this comment again when my video/blog post are ready. But for now, let me know if you have any further questions.

Tell me if I have created GA4 first, then there is option to create universal analytics or not.
@stephentracy
@stephentracy Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can start with a GA4 property, and create a UA tag at the same time. To do this, when you go to create a new property (using GA4), under the "Property Setup" page click on "Show advanced options", then you can toggle "Create a Universal Analytics property". This will automatically create a single code snippet that includes both the GA4 and UA property ID.

Hi Haley, my apologies for the slow reply. So it is technically possible to have 2 separate tags, one for UA and GA4. However it's not really necessary to drop in 2 separate code snippets. There are actually many different ways to dual tag your site. If you are starting with a brand new web property, you simply create a GA4 property, then under the "Property Setup" page click on "Show advanced options", then you can toggle "Create a Universal Analytics property". This will automatically create a single code snippet that includes both the GA4 and UA property ID. On the other hand, if you have an existing website with UA tags, there are a number of ways to add in the GA4 tag, from upgrading your UA tag within the GA admin to adding a new config directive. See sample code below for the latter: <Some Property ID A>"></script> <script> window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || []; function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);} gtag('js', new Date()); gtag('config', '<Some Property ID A>'); gtag('config', 'G-XXXXXXXX'); <--------- THIS IS WHERE YOU ADD THE GA4 TAG </script> You can read more about the various methods for dual tagging here - support.google.com/analytics/answer/11091026?hl=en#zippy=%2Cin-this-article
