How To Change Chart Granularity in Google Analytics 4

Struggling to adjust the time granularity of your charts in Google Analytics 4 (GA4) from daily to weekly or monthly? You're not alone! While this was a breeze in Universal Analytics (UA), it's a bit trickier in GA4. Don't worry, though - this video is here to guide you. I'll demonstrate how to locate and use the time-series chart toggle in GA4 using the data Explorer, giving you more control over your analytics data.

Unbelievable. I've been looking for a way to change granularity for weeks. Thanks a lot for this tip, even if this incomplete. I still don't understand why GA4 lacks so much features from UA, but it's a massive disappointment...

You’re welcome. And yes, a lot of people aren’t happy with GA4 in its current state. There are a lot of cool things you can do with its new measurement model, but the product team at Google really dropped the ball on ease of use and basic functionality like chart granularity. Watched a 10 minute video and still no answer for how to show monthly granularity! Disappointing from Google ☹

Unfortunately Google hasn't released support for monthly charts yet (no idea why), and you can only apply hourly, daily or weekly granularity to charts in data explorations. But seeing as the "monthly" option is available (but ghosted), I think it will be available at a later date

I get the sentiment/frustration. The transition to GA4 from UA has been rocky and the Google product team definitely sacrificed a lot of ease-of-use for advanced measurement features that only power users need. It's unfortunate, but at the same time, the learning curve to make sense of and get value from GA4 is still probably lower than moving to a paid alternative.
