Thank you for this very informative video! I have just started a leaf spring conversion on my RC4WD Gelande 2 Cruiser and installing a complete set of Teraflex Revolver Shackles and Z-Boxes front and rear. I was able to find the original full size installation instructions from Teraflex for installation on a Jeep YJ. The correct way, according to the original manufacturer is to orient the frame mount hinge to the outside for the front and frame mount hinge on the inside for the rear. There are no corresponding mounting holes in the frame, so I'm using Permatex Steel Weld Metal Epoxy to attach the Z-Boxes to the frame. I used some of the mounting components from the RC4WD Leaf Spring Kit to mount the Revolver Shackles at the front and oriented the hinges toward the front bumper to avoid interference with the steering linkage. I also had to shift the steering servo inboard using only the two inner mounting holes. Still a solid mount. I am using the RC4WD VVV-S0120 Ultra Scale Hardened Steel Driveshaft "Ver 2" (80mm - 110mm / 3.15" - 4.33") with no drop-out issues. I also had to purchase the RC4WD Z-S2111 Trail Finder 3 Front and Rear Leaf Spring Mounts in order to mount the Revolver Shackles at the rear of the frame. Once I have both front and rear suspension mounted to the frame, I will then determine the length of shocks to use. Currently the 80mm Rancho ones are too short. I will most likely go with 90mm ones.

Even though the red cat is very comparable and cost a whole lot less in 10 years can you walk into any hobby shop and buy parts for it….. I bet you can for the traxxas. Thats why Ive sold off a lot of my other brands except a few that I have cases of extra parts for and pretty much went all traxxas now. I got tired of having a 2yr old vehicle and the manufacturer already quit making replacement parts

Love the Leaf spring suspension and the fact that you are using the Hard Body! I don't know what you guys are using for suspension ideas but I can see the use of a "traction bar" for the rear. I had a car that I installed "Slide-a-link"traction bar on the single leaf spring with a 550 hp motor and the rear end of the car would "Lift" as you applied more power. Great Truck !

Need help 😀,can't decide on which one to get🤔,,,scx10 iii kit or the RTR Gladiator,,,, which one is more durable on the trail /rock
@new2rocks7534 жыл бұрын
Durability of the major components (axles, links, shocks, etc.) will be the same for both since they share components. The biggest difference is that you can start with better electronics if you build a kit vs. the RTR electronics that you'll want to upgrade pretty quickly.

They look pretty much equivalent to each other. Take the middle hump out of the red cat and it would have done better on the water to rock test. Other then that they are pretty much the same.
@new2rocks7534 жыл бұрын
Joe Rutkowsky stock vs stock, the TRX-4 has a performance edge primarily due to better foams, and stock components are more durable than the Gen8. But it’s easy to improve performance and durability of both trucks given the aftermarket support. You can’t go wrong either way. 👍
@joerutkowsky32614 жыл бұрын

what your basically referring to is the same as the Pen spring hack.. It helps a ton on crawling & sidehilling , the downside is your truck sits much lower to the ground making it harder to climb over obstacles without tearing your bumper up & you lose that scale looking articulation..
@ConditionZero764 жыл бұрын
with the shorter than normal width axles & then you went with even smaller tires, its starting to fall more in the 1/12 scale, especially next to a Gen 8 or Trx4

let me see, a Redcat Gen 8 for $269.00 with well over a $125.00 dollar licensed body alone on it or a Trx-4 for almost $500.00 dollars with all kinds of added electronics & junk to brake on it or a Trx4 Sport for $340.00 with a cheap cheasy unlicensed body & junk electronics. Pretty easy decision for me especially with Redcats best customer service in the industry & parts upgrades... Great Video 👍🏼
@new2rocks7534 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the video. I agree that the Redcat is good value, especially at the new, lower price. I happen to love the Scout body and have no desire to swap it, so that's how my Gen8 will stay. The lack of a licensed body has been the primary reason I never picked up a TRX-4 Sport, but the Sport is still good value even in comparison to the Gen8. Some of the basic components (esp. links and rod ends, axle housings) are more durable on the TRX-4 than on the Gen8, and upgrading the Gen8 components for durability can quickly make up a big chunk (if not all) of the price difference. So if you're going to swap out the body anyway, the TRX-4 Sport is an excellent platform to start with. Bottom line...it's great to have good choices!
@ConditionZero764 жыл бұрын
@@new2rocks753 Ye Im not Happy with the Trx-4 sport & that ridiculous joke of a body. & its ridiculous because if you want the nice Hard body say the Sweet looking pre cut red chevy body your paying another $169.99 for that. add that'll add up very quickly $340. 00 +$169.99 your at $509.00 before Taxes & or shipping & handling..... Im not sure when you bought your Redcat gen 8 but they upgraded all the axle housings on the New trucks among other parts, Ive never had an issue with mine to date. I did however over time just for fun installed the aluminum axle housings for the added weight & more realistic look. I was told if you have an original Gen 8 they'll send you out the Upgraded parts for free. something you may want to look into. I do agree however that the Trx-4 link ends are better but honestly thats a few dollar fix vs hundreds. plus who runs stock ends or even links for that matter.... 👍🏼

Great video, very informative!! One quick question, if you were going to run it as a single speed with a 2700kv BL motor which gear position would you lock it in high or low?? Thanks Keep up the great work!!
@new2rocks7534 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Interesting question...I very much like 2700 kv motors in trail trucks. On 3S with the right gearing, they give a nice combination of low-end torque and control, with plenty of wheel speed at the top end. If I were going to pick a single gear on this truck, I'd probably go with high gear but perhaps bring the pinion down a tooth or two for added low-end torque and to keep temps nice and cool. Good luck with your build!

i did a mix up on mine, trx4 chassis, with scx10 transmission. i be gettin 2 plate mounts so i can modify one with one only way to stop the torque twist, gotta have a selectable 2wd/4wd if traxxas had that idea of a selectable 2wd and 4wd, i would kept the stock trx4 2 speed transmission, it was lockin up on me
@new2rocks7534 жыл бұрын
If you want selectable 2WD/4WD, you could always go with a transmission from the Tamiya Bruiser/Mountain Rider, lol. In all seriousness, that would be a neat feature to have on the mass market scalers.

How does this crawl and climb compared to the TRX4 Sport, Element Enduro, VS410?
@new2rocks7534 жыл бұрын
All 4 drive very well out of the box. But stock vs. stock, I like the Trail King and the VS410 better than the TRX-4 Sport and Element, due primarily to better weight distribution. With the TRX-4 Sport, lowering the battery and running shorter shocks (80mm vs. 90mm) makes a big difference.
