Love the drag racing at the end. TRX4 popping a wheelie is pretty funny. I have the TRX4 Sport and I’m waiting for the SCX10 II Cherokee kit in the mail. Great video!

It is a wonderful video that objectively expresses the course of various difficulty levels. And the Cherokee's torque twist prevention setting is also good for the final run of the video.
@new2rocks7537 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the video and the side-by-side concept. I don't mind some torque twist in my trucks since most 1:1s have it, but I do appreciate how little the 10.2 has compared to some others like the Ascender.
@chadzigler5 жыл бұрын
reason for torque twist is the the transmission output drive and shafts are angled on the rear axle

I've got both trucks, love them both, they each have better traits than the other.

i did a mix up on mine, trx4 chassis, with scx10 transmission. i be gettin 2 plate mounts so i can modify one with one only way to stop the torque twist, gotta have a selectable 2wd/4wd if traxxas had that idea of a selectable 2wd and 4wd, i would kept the stock trx4 2 speed transmission, it was lockin up on me
@new2rocks7534 жыл бұрын
If you want selectable 2WD/4WD, you could always go with a transmission from the Tamiya Bruiser/Mountain Rider, lol. In all seriousness, that would be a neat feature to have on the mass market scalers.

I've got a real Cherokee so it's needless to say I have a thing for the Axial, but I prefer the TRX4 chassis. I don't know what it is about it. Maybe the floorpans and the wheel wells of the TRX4. The two, aside from the floorpans and wheel wells, are pretty dang similar. The Axial has a lot of open space on its chassis which isn't all that great for the scale look. My current crawler is the 1/10 Traxxas Summit. My next crawler will be the TRX4 Bronco. I also may get a Cherokee body for it and make it look like my full size.
@new2rocks7534 жыл бұрын
You really can't go wrong between the two. 1:1 XJs are awesome, BTW!
@dwaynebaker87337 жыл бұрын
can't believe this is the first crawler from traxxas, and it can go head too head with AXIAL, it looks like traxxas are gonna take over crawling to.👍
@new2rocks7537 жыл бұрын
Dwayne Baker - lol. I see Traxxas bringing a lot of new people in more so than taking over the existing market. Traxxas definitely did their homework and produced a great product, but there are always pros and cons. It has a few drawbacks vs the SCX10 II (including complexity and axle width), so there will be plenty of room in the market for Traxxas, Axial, Vaterra and others (as well as the upcoming HPI Venture). All of which is great for us... 😄

I was the other way around.. I used an Axial for bashing (yeti score) and then bought my first crawler from Traxxas haha~)

You picked a really nice course with variation. Love it! It seems the trx would do well with a heavier front bumper. A steel one. I'm still trying to choose between the defender, bronco or sport. I wonder how fast the sport is in comparison to the other 2.

Great video! Was curious on how well TRX4 would comepare to the king of crawling.
@new2rocks7537 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes...I was just as curious, and quite pleased to see how well the TRX-4 does in comparison. Now to see how it all holds up...
@rcmikeklein55127 жыл бұрын
very nice comparison, seems like the traxxas could do very well with a few mods, tires,wheels, motor. did the portals help with diff clearance or was it even noticeable.
@new2rocks7537 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It really does work well out of the box and doesn't even need that much by way of mods. From a performance perspective, the biggest opportunity is to lower the CoG (like our battery tray does). As far as the portals are concerned, the clearance helps on certain types of terrain. If you watch the last climb carefully, you can see the rear pumpkin of the SCX10 hang up on a rock for a second at the top of the climb before I was able to wiggle it loose. If you plan to take it out on more extreme, choppy terrain like that climb (think choppy rocks or trails with large roots sticking up all over the place), they would help. They'd also help if you're running smaller tires, though that's not as likely given how wide the axles are. But if you are using it on typical scale trails and rocks like you saw through the first three scenes, the portals don't add much because the clearance of the AR44s on the SCX10 2 or the Vaterra Ascender axles with similarly sized tires is already good enough that it's not an issue.

yeehaa nice video if my hobby shop ever gets an RTR SCX10ii in stock I'll buy one to drive with my TRX-4 I like the Axials are very good as well as I can see in the video and other videos. Interesting the hill climb section, first it tips over when the Axial did not, and then it goes and makes it all the way up lol
@new2rocks7537 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked the video. Just FYI, the RTR SCX10 II has a different transmission (with a plastic internal gear), and the stock motor and ESC wouldn't give you anywhere near the top end that the TRX-4 does. That's all easily fixable, of course. :-) On the hill climb, the biggest difference between the first and second pass with the TRX-4 was that I kept a bit more speed on the second pass so that I could use momentum to overcome the lack of grip and balance in the difficult spots. Which goes to show that sometimes the same obstacle requires different techniques with different trucks and setups.
@RDEnduro7 жыл бұрын
Oh right I did forget about the differences between the RTR and kit I had read that before! I also read it has a lower CG now that I remember. I would consider the kit but no way am I painting the body I'm so bad at painting I would end up buying an RTR body or something else off ebay just to avoid it! Nice insight on the technique I am just learning I was really just a basher with my Yeti but now I think I crawl way more I didn't think I would even like it when I started.
@new2rocks7537 жыл бұрын
When I look back at my first couple of paint jobs, I can only laugh. The best way to learn is by doing it. And there's no shame in picking up an RTR body or someone else's painted body to run until you get comfortable painting. I have several trucks running bodies that I picked up already painted knowing that it would be a while before I got around to painting up one of my own, lol.

Yes - the Traxxas was in high gear for the speed runs.

Remember that the 10.2 is not an RTR. It's a kit running a Puller Pro Stubby 3300 kv on 3S. That's a lot of motor. ;-)

i was surprised as well! glad he said it wasnt the RTR - i have the RTR Axial SCX10 II and mine is wayyyyy slower of course haha. thinking about swapping to the traxxas though

Is the TRX4 running 2S Lipo? I thought the TRX4 is much faster than the ACX10 II
@new2rocks7536 жыл бұрын
The TRX-4 is running 3S, as is the SCX10 II. The 10.2 was kit built running a Holmes Hobbies 3300 kV brushed motor on 3S, so it's got a lot more top end than an RTR SCX10 would. See notes to the video for more info on the setup of each truck.
@toddsimone71826 жыл бұрын
I see, that makes sense now. I just picked up the TRX-4 Bronco and so far I'm loving it. Just need to get it out to some heavier terrain to see what she can really do. Quick question on the SHV500 servo, are you running it at 12V and how do you have it powered on the stock electronics?
@ka41727 жыл бұрын
Now exchange the body with each other! Ha ha! Nice Video comparison.
@new2rocks7537 жыл бұрын
Lol...thanks! The biggest problem with putting the XJ body on the Traxxas is that the Traxxas axles are much wider than the 10.2 axles, so the wheels would stick too far out. That's going to be an issue with a lot of the bodies on the market, so I'm hoping that we start seeing either wider bodies or a narrowing kit for the TRX-4 axles.
@ka41727 жыл бұрын
Its more like the SCX 10 body is way more lightweight than the TRX4 body.Without body the TRX4 climb like a goat.
