I was at this game with my dad, sitting 6 rows up in the corner. Absolutely spectacular hockey with so many Hall of Famers. The two things that stood out the most to me was the incredible game tying goal in the last minute by Kamienski. You could hear a pin drop in the arena and I had to ask my dad if it was a goal because it was so quiet. The second was during the OT (when you could literally tackle people without being called for a penalty), two Canadians were trying to tackle Krutov and they couldn't budge him. He was the strongest hockey player I had ever seen. And he just looked at the ref like "wtf?"

I see both sides diving. I'm sure the soviets were crying about 1980 with the USA kicking their butts. Face it you can't play the north american style game. Niet Niet Soviet ;)

What's hard for me to understand is how Canadians can be proud of this?! The fans watching the game. This is a little like minorities getting certain jobs because they're minority, not because of skill level. Here it's the same... Canada never would have won without the refs letting them get away with everything. Too sad for the game of hockey and for the Soviets!

oh no, a dirty time in hockey that led to the dead puck era that EVERYONE was doing? what shall we ever do? I KNOW! high tech cameras that could help make it easier! it's not like these were against the rules, they were just never enforced in the north american game. plus them russian doped and are salty

For decades the Sovjets made the Canadians look like droopy-eyed armless children. This is what it looks like when hockey based on roughing, slashing and spitting meat finesse, technical skill, teamwork and true talent. Anyone with the love for this sport can appreciate the latter.

Huh? This was the only time Russia ever actually won a 1 game final vs Canada. Canada's beaten Russia in every other best on best event over the past 52 yrs.
@Underhills3 ай бұрын
@@rigafraction1653 If your read what I wrote I'm referring to Soviet. Not Russia. In all international meetings between the Soviet Union and Canada, from 1954-1991, there were a total of 139 games played. The USSR won 95 games to Canada's 32 games, and 12 games ended in a tie. And as mentioned no one played the game as elegant and great as the Soviets. I think all hockey lovers can agree on that. It's pretty much an established part of hockey history. I wanna add that Canada is of course one of the greatest hockey nations in the world, that speaks volume about the former Soviet Union hockey or the Red Army hockey as it's better known as, they played superior hockey to anyone for a long time. My favourite era is late 70's to early to mid 80's, in that periode the Red Army team rarely lost at all. In the 1981 Labatt Canada Cup the Soviet Union defeated Canada 8-1. My favorite players are Larionov, Fetisov, Makarov, Kozlov.

The greatest 3 game series I have ever watched. The fact neither teams players played against each other week in week out made it all the more special. I completely respect Canada winning but I feel the Soviet's were more silky and easy on the eye. I played with and against a good few ex NHL players but the greatest player I ever played with and against came from the Soviet League in the 80's, Oleg Sinkov (Dynamo Kiev in the 80's/early 90's). His skill level was so far ahead of the ex NHL players I played against.

1987 Canada Cup was the high water mark in hockey. The 90s saw the rise of the dead puck era defensive hockey. Fire wagon 6-5 hockey was the best.

First Rule about that Challenge Cup series is no one talks about the Challenge Cup Series. Gretzky was a rookie and was still a couple years away, the ‘72 team had been there done that and it was just a mid-season exhibition.

Canadian? Don’t Canadian say the most points regardless, is what determines who’s the best? Kareem Abdul Jabar outscored Michael Jordan by 6000 points. So according to Canadian logic he’s Better than Michael Jordan . What’s the measuring stick? Because on every Mario highlights videos they come on a Mario thread and throw mindless stats. They must be bored watching Wayne’s highlights of him scoring on spare goalies and empty nets, in all these 11-2 or 10-3 blow outs

That third goal of CSKA is one of the best I have ever seen. How to rip a topteam apart in 2-3 seemingly simple passes with a seemingly simple shot on goal. The commentator does it justice and immediately realises it is the creme de la creme he just watched. And that is what makes it so amazing: it is very difficult to play it so simple and perfect.

Haha Russians complaining about Canadians diving .... that's rich.... I watched this series originally in the 80s and I've watched the games several times.... This video conveniently omits all of the dives & penalties the Russians did. It was a very close series but Canada was the better team ... by 1 goal!.... Stop making excuses. The biggest reason why Russians think Canadians were cheating is because there was a big difference between NHL rules and European.... in the 1980s slight hooks from behind was legal in the 80s.... it's no longer allowed today. And when the Russians were tugged from behind they would flop like fish.... and sometimes they drew penalties as a result. Canada has won the majority of world junior hockey championships over the last 30 years .... which is a true best on best tournament which is played in both North America & Europe.... how do you explain this? Are you suggesting Canada is capable of cheating in Europe? The same goes for professional best on best tournaments since 72.... Canada has won most of them. The only time Russia wins is when they are playing in a tourney which doesn't have Canada's best ... the last Olympics is a good example... all of the Soviet Unions gold medals in the Olympics prior to professionals being allowed to play is another. Canada is the best.... it's not even close.
