I've started watching your Vids cos I watch James's Videos. I like seeing the development of your robot. I do have a Question tho if this is the weapon choice that your set on, have you considered a shuffle bot? Look up Mudskipper or monkfish I'll think you would find it interesting
@engineered_cha0s8 күн бұрын
thanks, glad people enjoy following along! I initially considered a shuffler but they are generally more fragile, complex and slow than wheeled bots. there are exceptions to the rule like coldsnap which is another shuffler undercutter that seems to have cracked the code to smooth and fast shuffling but it takes alot of effort to get there. I've got ideas for a shuffling ringspinner which you'd be familiar with from james' videos although mine will have a different approach but for yellow specifically its kind of my KISS robot (keep it simple, stupid) also australians have 'spirit of the rule' meaning that the weight bonus is there to encourage unique and complex designs and that the shuffle mechanism should consume the weight bonus. tldr: aussies generally dislike shufflers that are only shufflers to have bigger weapons

@@engineered_cha0s The video looks fine. just the audio where you're talking. The mic is picking up low frequency background road noise or something. It might not be very obvious unless you have some good headphones or a subwoofer, but the bass in the audio is unnecessary when just talking because a human man usually only talks as low as 90hz or so. so anything below 90hz audio range should be removed.

O-rings as belts is so annoying. I used them as weapon pulley in my fairy, and they slipped so bad. Now I use 3M toothed pulleys made of TPU, with the belt being a 6mm wide belt I cut in half lengthwise to make a 3mm belt. I have no idea how to make it accessible for drive. Maybe print an S3M belt out of TPU, but only 2mm wide?
@engineered_cha0s19 күн бұрын
Tell me about it... Three events in and I've finally done an entire event without losing a belt... Toothed sounds good, transmits torque through the teeth rather than friction so would probably be a bit more forgiving for tension
@TrentSheather18 күн бұрын
I've used o-ring belts for drive for a while now in my 150g bots. The belt tension is absolutely critical and small variations will have a huge impact. For a 75mm circumference belt I found a 2mm change in length was noticeable. I still haven't got a formula or rule figured out for the optimal tension, but highly recommend making 10 different sizes and testing them all just to see if you can find a tension that works best because when it is dialled in they work amazingly well.

Yeah I think my "method" extends as far as loosely wrap the cord around where it has to go, pull it taught, go "a smidge" (scientific terms I know) further than that and that's a good place to start testing and shortening

Your bot is killing itself! The weapon motor is sucking way too much power. Every time you start the weapon, it literally spins the bot into a wall and kills your drive!
@engineered_cha0s2 ай бұрын
Good spotting! Its not sucking too much power exactly but yeah the torque reaction of the weapon spinning up spins the whole bot lol. Not necessarily an issue as the same can be seen in other bots (tombstone often does a full 360 when starting up) but definitely something to consider. Wider wheelbase would help with this too. Drive is definitely underpowered and generally hard to drive. All things will be improved in the next iteration.

If you convert your drive to a shuffler would that give you a weight bonus for more armor?
@engineered_cha0s2 ай бұрын
@@YH-du3jc yes that'd give me another 75g for a total of 225 although it's a trade I'd rather not make... The tpu stands up wonderfully against everyone I've faced so far with the largest gash by far (apart from tests) being sh-bang during this rumble. Top armour might be worth investing in but I can just take my side armour off for that. Shufflers come with downsides (more fragile, slower) and at the moment I don't think it's a trade worth making. I'm developing a ringspinner which will probably need the shuffler weight bonus though...
@engineered_cha0s2 ай бұрын
@@YH-du3jc at this point I think the best improvement I can make is actually investing in better drive. This will not only let me capitalise on hits where my opponent is disoriented but also increase my energy transfer from the weapon as "bite" is how much of the weapon engages with the opponent which increases with speed of impact. Meaning improving drive will actually make my weapon more effective too!

you may be able to get away with getting a mini wedge on the rear of the bot which would also favor you to fall to one side
@engineered_cha0s2 ай бұрын
I did consider that but kind of wanted to stick with the simplicity of the "big stick" mentality especially for a first robot. It let me put all my weight into weapon and gives me a simple gameplan for each fight rather than being overloaded with options. I've definitely since considered (and hastily tried) a rear wedge but I think I'll need more modularity in general as it would be good to maybe have a lighter weapon with options for overhead armour or a wedge
