Wow, I am surprised that it is okay to offer it uncooked. I had mixed Masa harina with it and made "jonny" cakes, also called hocakes cooked in a frying pan. That ismuch easier and we will definitely do this.

Wha a wonderful video! all kinds of good ideas to pick and choose from! I hope to make a few "balls of snacks" for my birds using peanut butter and mixed bird seed - and other things to keep them active and give them nibbles through the day. They love their cracked corn, but other treats are appreaciated if only because they don't get them as often. And keeping them dry is so very important! Once I changed up my roosts to be larger, so they could keep their toes warm, I stopped them from having toe loss to frostbite! Such a small change, but it made a huge difference!

Hi! Love Meyer! ❤ So, I have a few questions- I'm thinking of getting some day old chicks in early spring since my gals are getting old/flock is dwindling but I've surfed your site and am in sticker shock😂 I know Covid and all these bird flu cases drives your costs up, so, I'm wondering do you still do your random in store bargain bin chicks? And if you come on a Mon (or is it Tues?) or Thurs is there a better opportunity to pick up day olds? The bin chicks are just customer guesses, or do you label which breeds are in the bins? Do you sex/guarantee those bargain bin chicks? And, can they be vaccinated if I want to pay the extra fee? Also, it's probably NOT a good idea to get a lil roo chick when you still have a rooster with your flock, huh? I have a bunch of hens that go broody, though over the years, they've slowed down-if they had strong maternal instinct, would they pick up with day olds? I was thinking that maybe I pull my sweetest broody (I have a buff orp, cochins, Dominiques, barred rock, partridge rock that have all tried to hatch clutches. The buff orp was always the most serious and took weeks to get her to snap out of it) and keep her inside with new babies until they feather/it warms up, BUT, my barred rock roo is the rooster from hell!! He takes his job way too seriously, so I just don't even know if I can expand the flock, even if I splurged and got pullets. I'd hate to wait until my entire flock is gone, plus I know MANY ppl integrate new with old easily-it can be done. I want egg layers, and while I truly have favorite breeds I'd love to add, it's more about saving money for me, and adding hearty birds that can deal with Ohio heat and cold, as well as be happy in a pasture situation in an enclosed garden about 50'x50' and with weight and coloring that helps defend against predators, not attracts. I don't want loud or unhappy hens. My flock is 5 and started with 13 chicks-only lost one at 13 weeks to a fox. The rest are smart, well camouflaged, weighty and hide well, relying on their rooster. Main predators are hawks and owls I do want to add a roo with the new group if possible, a friendlier, bigger guy like maybe a Brahma or a Faverolle, even a Cochin but I can't have attacks from my 5 yr old roo. I wish I was capable of adding him to the stew pot, but I just can't😢 Should I give up on the idea of a roo until he dies? I could hatch out my own eggs, but I'm not capable of culling any young roos that develop, and with my luck, I'd probably get more roos than hens Thanks in advance- I just can't believe how the prices have shot up to 5-6x what they were during the pandemic. Your company and chickens are top notch so I only want to support your hatchery, which is why I'm starting to plan now for 4 months from now!! It's a shame I'm too wimpy to just hatch my own eggs😂😢

Thanks for watching and for your questions! We do offer Bin Chicks in store. Please give our CS team a call before making the trip over, to ensure we have them available, as they can sell out at any time. Bin chicks are available 12:30pm or later on hatch date (usually Mondays). The breeds are mixed together in the bin, so they are considered "assorted", but they are layer breeds. If we have any meat breed chicks, those chicks have their own bin. The Bin Chicks are females only and can not be vaccinated. If you need vaccinated chicks you may want to place an order for pickup, so you can include the vaccination service. If you want a hen to raise the chicks, you will want to select a hen that is actively broody. If the hen isn't broody when you introduce the chicks, she may not be interested in caring for the chicks, and could abandon them. Please keep in mind our livability policy does not cover chicks being raised by a broody hen. You can add another rooster to your flock, but you may need to be extra mindful when merging the younger group with your existing flock. As long as there are enough hens for each rooster to have their own group, there will be very few, if any, disagreements between the roosters. I hope this information helps. If I have missed any questions, or if you have additional questions, please feel free to give us a call! Our team is always ready to answer any questions you have. 💖

Please help. I froze many dozens of eggs in Feb and march. It is now November and I am having trouble with them. The ones that I just cracked an egg and put it in a cupcake mold and frozen. I was hoping to use for holiday baking but when thawed out the yokes don't melt, they just remain a firm ball like a hard boiled egg. I tried to cook directly in a pan as you said and the whites melted and the yokes stay a firm ball.
@MeyerHatchery10 күн бұрын
Thank you for reaching out. We use our whole frozen eggs within about 3 months or so, and have not run into this within that timeframe. Some tips that may help reduce this in the future include using freezer grade vacuum bags for long term storage, but you may still want to scramble those prior to freezing for better consistency. If you need to have the eggs whole and unscrambled, you can separate the yolks from the whites and add a pinch of salt plus a half teaspoon of sugar for every four yolks prior to freezing. I hope this helps! 💖

I don't have any cuddle chickens or lap birds right now. Even my cuddle geese are teenagers and "Too big for snuggles". I guess we all have teenage times. lol This is a great idea, though, and one I will keep in mind for later, when I have a lap bird. How fun! Thank you for the wonderful craft idea and the reminder. Foot health is really important for everyone and we forget how quickly a small wound can get out of hand.

How do they protect chicken health from catching diseases?
@MeyerHatchery13 күн бұрын
Thanks for asking this great question. All birds must be tested for Pullorum prior to entry if the birds are one year old or more. For birds less than one year of age, they are required to show the birds are from a Pullorum free hatchery.

I have a Snaplock Coop from the USA and it is made of only a few parts which can be deassembled for cleaning and afterwards reassembled again. It will only take me about an hour to completely clean it (deassemble and reassemble). Still, I use the Omlet doors for my stone coops and I will use the Omlet door for the Snaplock Coop as well, once I have the money to buy another door. I also love the Omlet Walk-In run. At the moment I have a metal framed and completely wired plant tunnel which is 6m x 3m.

Are the colder eggs placed in the fridge or can they still be left out on the counter?
@MeyerHatchery16 күн бұрын
Thank you for asking! You can still leave these eggs on the counter. Just let them air dry, if they sweat a little bit while coming up to room temperature. If you wipe them while damp, that would remove the protective bloom, then they would need to go into the fridge.

Since they cannot preen/clean bugs, what do u suggest?
@MeyerHatchery18 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching and asking this great question! Make sure they have access to a dust bath, as this will help them stay free of bugs. Some beak trimming may help them to be able to preen. If the cross beak is severe and the chicken is unable to preen, we can help by very gently running fingers through their feathers. 💖

I had to do this with a whole batch that came in and is having trouble, almost 25% are very weak. Already lost 4 and hope to save most of them... The egg yolk seems to be helping a lot since a few that where really weak this morning are still there, I had to offer it to them one at a time... I am also offering them filtered water with molases and the stronger ones seem to be responding well to it. I have a thermometer just like the one in the video and temperature is as she describes. I am caring for them around the clock till they all get strong, thank you for sharing this knowledge. 🙏

Someone commented that adding the water increases the whisk of mold. And the author says store it for three days in the refrigerator? I’ve seen other versions that do not use water and they use a little bit more of the acidic part whether vinegar or lemon juice. It keeps longer then. Personally I want it to keep for one week in the fridge so I prefer 2-3 teaspoons of vinegar or lemon juice, a little bit more of the oil and no water. Plus, add some Dijon mustard or mustard of your choice so you’re getting some turmeric for anti-inflammatory effect , and a little bit more vinegar in the mustard which will help preserve
