Great review! I pre-ordered one and can't wait to get it after watching your video.

Koala Sampler is a vastly better idea for getting your feet wet than Volca Sample. And it's on your phone or tablet, nothing more to carry. And look how many people used the same T-pain vocal FX. No one but insecure other musicians care whether you're using the same punch FX from the KO2. Go to town with whatever you like.
@HiImNathan3 күн бұрын
I’m pretty focused on hardware so can’t speak to Koala but I see it pop up in discussions on Reddit frequently. I know working with an IPAD is a workflow that tons of people vibe with. I myself still love and use my Volca Sample and will continue to offer it as an option to people cause it’s just so fun. Yeah I hear you on the punch in effects. This is just my opinion, but I see them as ear candy-especially when you first get the KOII. After a few months of owning it I basically forgot they were there.

I don’t really do conspiracy theories but it’s easy to speculate that someone with as much information on powerful people as Epstein would be very dangerous…so the answer to your question is any of the very powerful people he knew? Edit: Just read this Wikipedia article and his attorneys and the mayor of New York both called into question circumstances surrounding his death. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epstein_didn%27t_kill_himself

I got mine a few months ago off the secondary and it's in great condition. The only thing I don't like is the dividers like you said in the video. Not robust enough for me. I might just get some insert or find some other dividers. Thanks for the vid. what a well loved bag!
@HiImNathan18 күн бұрын
Happy you scored one in good condition, I'm kinda kicking myself for not buying a second one a few years ago when they frequently appeared on Ebay. I for sure recommend stealing the dividers from another camera bag to shore up the paddling, its really one of the only low quality aspects that leaves you wanting something more robust. Hope you get as many years out of yours as I have mine! Still using it weekly :))

That is a band I would like to join!
@mushdath22 күн бұрын
@@HiImNathan The band is very local haha with a lot of enthusiasm, yes, the sound could be described as very new wave and city pop. The sound is like a typical band made up of 2 guitars, bass, drums, and I am in charge of keyboards, I use this Yamaha Ps20 keyboard and an Alessi Micron, mainly pads and strings. He also incorporated a Tascam 02 mkII to make pads with the Tape Loop technique with guitar pedals, to achieve atmospheres in certain songs.

I would have preferred it if you just used the DFAM and Korg SQ1 so I could have seen whats doing what. The DFAM is supposed to be the drummer so why did you need the Drumbrute and other thingey? I would have liked to have seen more depth in how exactly you programmed the SQ1 with the DFAM. Great video though and thank you.
@HiImNathanАй бұрын
Hey Peter, thanks for taking time to leave a comment and speak your mind. The SQ-1 in the video was a loaner…I didn’t fully understand its functionality enough to speak on it a ton. I was just trying to demonstrate that an external sequencer really opens up the DFAM. It’s understandable you would want to see more SQ-1 and I will seriously consider a future video focusing on it and the DFAM. The DrumBrute is in there because with it easily handling any bass/snare sounds the DFAM can really go wild. The best way to use the DFAM imo is to have two of them or to use it in conjunction with a regular drum machine.

@VinylWave112 ай бұрын
Personally I do wish it had about 1 to 2 gigabytes and an SD Card slot. I also use my own samples from field recordings. But it is still a usable device; it is not as usable as the MPC or Sp 404 MK2. While I am a musician with years of experience sampling, I love the size and price. I also love the filters and using it to create samples for a mix within other projects. I won’t be using it for a full set by its self. But to me it’s a great to have device for creating, taking everywhere, thinking out loud.
@HiImNathan2 ай бұрын
An SD card slot would be the greatest upgrade to the KOII. I agree though, it’s at its best as a carry everywhere device for having fun.

I don’t know enough about all these to compare…but I do know about the Digitakt. It has 64mbs per project and 1GB overall…it also uses its memory creatively to get the most out of this storage. The Digitakt also was released over TEN YEARS AGO! A sampler released in 2023 should just have more than 64mb or at least an SD card.

note: korg volca-sample - is a sample player -no inputs for 'sampling', no microphone same/similar to elektron sample or roland mc-101 >> "sample players" 2 distinct product lines - sample players and samplers.

For “sampling” you use your Vosyr Sampling Manager and than transfer your banks to the Volca Sample. And than you play them. But sure for beginners it is better to start with an Sample Player because you can concentrate on making music 😉

looks like a fun machine "who is this for" is a good question with something like this 64mb is a pretty poor design choice, but I've heard enough cool stuff made with it that it's obv not a deal breaker for everyone I have the elektron samplers so this is the last thing I need but it's still cool to see people use it
@materialvision2 ай бұрын
I definitely think 64MB is too little, even after loading double speed samples onto it it fills up when you make a bit more ambient and long sample ideas. Maybe TE just want us to make beats? I don´t buy that that type of restriction makes you more on your toes and creative, sorry :-) 256MB would be perfect IMHO. 64 and no SD card is just a weird decision from TE. Those components are extremely cheap so I don´t see what point they are making. Otherwise it is a great machine...
@HiImNathan2 ай бұрын
Yeah my thinking was that by having to continuously upload new samples I’m really in touch with the sounds on there and what samples I want available at a given time. An SD card slot would have been a game changer for the KO II!!!
@e-conrecords4665Күн бұрын
I cut my teeth on a EPS 16+ back in the 90’s. You could load 3 floppy discs worth of samples onto it. 3 x 1.44mb. Compared to that, 64mb is a luxury 😂. We could have written a whole album easily on 64mb. It’s kinda funny when you think about it. Having said that, messing with the K.O II makes me enjoy my MPC even more.

Nice. I don't have a Volca Keys, but you reminded me that I still have an IK Multimedia UNO Synth Pro, a parametric three-note analog synth with some real growl. I never really thought about using it for ambient, but your video made me pull it out of the closet to play with it again. I have a lot of fun with my simpler synths, doing similar ambient stuff (I have a blast when my Yamaha TG33 hits the bench). You can really get caught up in it, and before you know it you've recorded 30 minutes and still have no real desire to stop. :) Thanks for sharing! Now I just have to figure out how to spring for a Blackhole (or a Microcosm) without my wife chastizing me for spending so much on a pedal...
