Sounds like you recommend staying more time in the Big Island and less in Maui? We have two weeks and our travel agent recommended three nights in the Big Island, 8 nights in Maui and three nights in Oahu. Sounds like we should take at least one night from Maui and make it four nights in the Big Island.

Then again ... my girlfriend and I went on a vacation to St Lucia and Dominica in the late 1980s. I picked out Dominica as the off-the-beaten-track island with more natural scenery than some of the other islands. We stayed at a resort for part of a week, and did go to the Emerald Pool. One day we drove our rental car into town to look around. As we walked down the street, we saw that many of the buildings were empty and had been for years. This was true Third World stuff. There was a local woman walking in front of us down the sidewalk in a dress and a big hat. She stopped, squatted over the gutter in the middle of the day and urinated. No, that's not what we went on a vacation to see. No, we weren't sheltered Americans, much less ignorant. But I don't want to see that on vacation any more than I want to see it at home. There is no moral requirement that Americans should 'understand' these things. And I wouldn't signal my virtue to pretend that I shouldn't be bothered by it.

We just got home after a week on The Big Island. Something no one is talking about and On The Rocks is one of them is the $18. an hour parking. You pay with an app and it’s 90% of the downtown parking lots. It was bad enough for public lots but On the Rocks has their own lot. We boycotted all the downtown restaurants!

Jet skiing, beaches, bars, pools, resorts. Which place?

I wonder what would happen to Hawaii ,if all the holes vanish just over night. Hmmmm. Makes me think 🤔 Zimbabwe? Mozambique? Haiti? Oh I'm sure indigenous Polynesian people will be just fine. Ps. LOVE Big Island been there 30 times over half of the century. But move permanently? With all the guilt?

Agree 100%. Tons, and tons things to do. When i very first time visit Kauai, whole trip cost me $900. Including air, 7night hotel, breakfast in nice restaurant and 4Wd. Went everywhere. But thing what remember the most was this wonderful yellow parrots. I visit Kauai 11 times after , but i never so this beautiful parrots again

The Jeep tour to see the buffalo is a good one. But be prepared to see absolutely nothing. I've done it twice. The first time we saw the buffalo and a few other species of wildlife. The second time ? I saw a lizard and couldn't wait for that ride to be over. Mostly because of the tour guides constant rambling about things nobody cared about.

Great video, but I would clarify that the Mountain Biking shown is actually Gravel Biking...for those who want to bring the right gear.

Stargazing is spectacular from 5000 feet onwards. No need to go to Mauna Kea 13000 feet and risk headache etc; there are other locations. I could clearly see Milky Way. Incredible night sky.

Another tip- police in big island and Maui drive in unmarked cars like land cruisers. 90% of them. So don’t speed thinking there is no one watching.

Botanical garden was a surprise. Manta ray snorkel at 9pm was beyond expectations . Saddle rock 1.5hr drive was super. Hottest tip- there is a Costco there and great delis in grocery stores. In general restaurants are nothing great and overpriced . Lava rock is nice bar with activities and food, but you are not there for that. Just make your own sandwiches and byob.

The first activity, I may try. I heard about it in another video. Planning a trip to Catalina. I haven't been there in 42 years.

I laughed out loud beginning @2:21 of your video! I can only imagine the people reactions to driving on the streets of my island of Dominica 🇩🇲. I'm from Dominica 🇩🇲 living in California. Even I get scared when I used to ride the busses on our streets. But our island drivers they know how to maneuver this mountainous island streets. Okay I will continue listen.😀😃😄😁

And bring yellow jacket bug spray and bring military boots and if you come in a boat make sure its a 35 foot cabin boat and bring a suitcase of cash

Temecula is on your list? Pfft…Temecula sucks!! It’s hot af there and it’s basically a desert. And the traffic and lines….I highly recommend you don’t WASTE your time there. And most of the areas on your list are mainstream everyday crowded areas that I usually avoid at all costs.

Thank you for this. I hope others have the same experience as you. Arrogant people with bad attitudes and their vocal complaining can really sour a trip and it’s the main reason we don’t book cruises or resorts. We’re planning a weekend in Dominica next year! I want to go to the Boiling lake!!!!

There is nothing of these you cannot do from mainland. Why waste time going in an island that will cost you hundreds for a day for couple.
