Hi Mitch. I have a 1989 CR 500. Besides trying taller gearing and a larger carb. (41 mm). I really want more top end overev. I know it will never be a KX500 with power valves but will buying an aftermarket ignition like this with the new coil , give me this? Maybe a programable cdi? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Great video BTW👍
@Mitchlovin145_mxАй бұрын
Thanks for watching and the compliments! This ignition is fully tunable for where ever you want the power. I have played with it and found the setting(s) that i like. Im strictly riding moto with this bike. Id suggest this ignition and the MRE horsepower exhaust flange .

@Mitchlovin145_mx5 ай бұрын
It works, but id make sure you have a good supply of jets. I went from a 55 pilot to a 62. The main wasnt as far off. But what worked with the stock pj , was a good ways off on the parts carb
@PWalden7625 ай бұрын
@@Mitchlovin145_mx Well I slapped it on my bike, put a factory spec main jet and a size up pilot, and then went for a test ride. You are dead right, it was still lean... But over all, Damn! I am totally impressed, my bike is 10 times better than before. No regrets so far on this carb. Right now, I have the air screw turned all the way in, and it still idles a touch erratically once it is warm, like it is lean. Wondering if perhaps my old intake boot has an air leak or something, or maybe it is just in the carb.
@Mitchlovin145_mx5 ай бұрын
Id jump up pilots until you get the air screw a couple turns out! Glad you tried it, its not perfect But it is a viable solution

Why would you need more power from a 500cc dirt bike. My friend had one. I rode it twice and never got past third gear on a track
@Mitchlovin145_mx5 ай бұрын
On a moto track i personally dont think you need more power. Its just about fine tuning the power you have.
@whyareyoureadingmyname58543 ай бұрын
Well, why not? We have the Maico 700 2 stroke with 82hp and then we got turbocharged 450s with over 100hp. In this era, we are trying to turn dirt bikes into sportbikes basically, but have them still used on dirt.

Hello , do you think i can do this at home without special tools ? I do have the vise
@Mitchlovin145_mx5 ай бұрын
Special tools do help , youll need a way to hold the dampener rod/cartridge, you can tape the tube to prevent damage when installing seals, then you need to drive the seal in and measure the fluid

@tylerjamesgillismusic47827 ай бұрын
What were the jetting issues in your 94 250 was it that bike you put the q&a carb on ? I tried putting it on my 93 250 with the pj jetting kit I got from jd jetting and it does not like it down low very boggy lean off the bottom. Tried a jd jetting kid for a kehin airstriker and still running into a bottom end lean condition and I just replaced the crank seals last year and checked them to be sure and they are seated nicely so I know it’s carb related
@Mitchlovin145_mx7 ай бұрын
Exactly my issue! Yes it was the qa parts carb. It was a total dog on the bottom. So slow, i went from a 55 to a 58 pilot. Which helped it alot. The airscrew Was almost closed, so i got my hands on a 60 and had a brief test session. Seems to clear the bottom up, but have since transitioned to a slight hiccup in the midrange. I think ill drop the clip to the 4th position and see if that changes it

I’ve been pulling my hair out since Friday. No start on my kawi. Started off with no spark. Then I eventually got spark consistently. Went through the whole gammit of stuff. New coil, multiple new plugs, different working carb, new fuel etc etc etc. Sand grounds bal blah blah. Finally got down to deciding it was time to continuity test wires from stator to cdi. First obvious problem. The flywheel weigh set screws weren’t tight. Took it off. Rapped the flywheel with the hammer a couple times and pulled it off and there it was. The infamous sheared woodruff key. Damnit! $4 part ruined my race weekend a month ago and had me in fits since Friday when I finally decided to put the new coil in.
@Mitchlovin145_mx8 ай бұрын
Good find, sucks that it ruined a weekend of ripping but alteast its fixed. I had a similar issue with my 2000 rm125, the previous owner never tightened the flywheel nut. When it eventually backed off, it wedged the flywheel against the ignition cover, causing the 2 pieces of the flywheel to twist . I chased that no start condition for 2 weeks. It had spark so thats what threw me for a loop! Good find and thanks for watching.
@someoneyouknow968 ай бұрын
@@Mitchlovin145_mx that's most of the reason I was hesitant to get further into it because I had spark too. The day I got it home I ohmed the coil and it was out of spec. That's when I ordered 2 new ones and 2 new plugs. Then it sat for a month until Friday. Then my garage blew up with rants.

Pj carbs can be a pain to get the float height set right sometimes it takes me a bit to get them setup right but a rebuild and they are good to go they run just fine on my cr bikes. I sure wouldn't run a knock off pwk on that nice of a bike 😂 seriously why cheap out on a real pwk carb. Send me the oem pj carb I'm sure nothing is wrong with it 😂
@Mitchlovin145_mx8 ай бұрын
This was just an experiment , i have another setup that ill be running. The stock pj has a fresh rebuild, but there are a few issues. 1) being the brass float seat has a spot in it where its gouged, my guess is somebody tried to remove it. 2) the slide is delaminated . I gave it a shot, im testing this carb out, but stayed tuned ill be doing a video with the new setup. Thanks for watching
