Hi, what was used along with the binoculars to calture these photos? I assume a lens camera/smartphone mount of some sort? Also ready if using a tripod get the celestron metal one? Whats it like viewing the night sky lying down by hand?

Some people love finderscopes, some people don't. I never really liked using them - my trick is to swap eyepieces. I use my lowest power eyepiece to find an object, essentially using the entire scope as one giant finderscope. Then once i have the object centered, i very carefully switch out my eyepiece for the high-powered one. Sometimes this is much better than the Telrad, since you might not be able to see the object in the sky without magnification. Telrad works great for bright objects, but not as well when the object is faint or not close to known bright stars.

Good job guys. One thing that everyone who uses binoculars for astronomy should know is the concept of exit pupil. To find your exit pupil, take the second, bigger number (the objective size), and divide it by the first, smaller number (the power). So, for example, in a pair of 10x50 binoculars, your exit pupil is (50 / 10) = 5, or 5 millimeters. So what does that tell you? It will give you the relative image brightness when looking at faint objects. When your eyes adjust to the dark, your eyes' pupils really only open to about 7 mm at the most. So binoculars with exit pupils of 7 mm will provide the most light gathering power for faint objects (like 7x50's). When looking at bright objects, it's ok to trade image brightness for power, and use something with less of an exit pupil (like a 10x50 or 12x50). Hope this helps!

Fantastic review and demonstration! Can you zoom in and out, depending on what you are looking at (like for more terrestrial viewing during the day)? If so, how much can you zoom out? Thanks!

Answer: You can't see crap because any time you put your eyes up to it, it shakes the tripod around.

OK. New subscriber here AND I NEED YOUR HELP! I don't care from which astronomy dude, both astronomy dudes - anyone in the comments; how do I collimate my telescope? It's also a dinosaur (OMCON, Canadian company), from the 80's I am guessing, but I can not find a manual or anything about it online. Like your Odyssey, my OMCON 8" doesn't have the newer standard crosshair/spider web holding the secondary mirror (with 3 collimating hex screws and a center screw), in place. Mine has no collimating screws for the secondary mirror at all - it is fixed permanently to a single rod, threaded at both ends, with 1 nut inside and outside of the OTA, on each side. If anyone has any advice I sure would appreciate it. I have had this scope for about 2 weeks, and we've been so fortunate to have had consecutive clear skies. Moon looks great. Jupiter looks great. Saturn looks great. I wonder what they'd look like if I knew how to successfully collimate this thing. I take it out every night, but want this telescope at it's peak performance. When I look through the focuser at the secondary mirror I can see a half moon of black above the top right side of my left eyebrow. When I try to align the primary and secondary with the laser, the laser will be visible upon both mirrors, but also shooting out of the OTA. Any help would probably be very useful. Great video by the way. This telescope came with a Telrad, and I could not imagine an easier method to lock onto any bright object, in a matter of seconds. I love the Telrad. I want to love the telescope too!

Great job guys! really enjoyed watching you both and I am so very grateful that you made this video for all of us, my daughter and I (and wife also) are getting into Astronomy and we are enjoying ourselves very much, we just saw Saturn and Rings a few days ago and it just filled us up with joy and we were super excited to see this. Thank you for sharing, you 2 work great together, Always always keep that beautiful relationship very close and never allow anything to get in between that. I pray GODs very best for you both!

Can you please tell me, which tripod did you use to see these stars? Could you see also the Milky Way?
@Z0FD
@Z0FD Жыл бұрын
Hey. Macrosenia. Yes you can see the milky way if the light pollution is VERY LOW. Not exaggerating. The light pollution has to be 1-3 in the bortle scale. I'd suggest you check out some websites that are known to predict how dark the skies are going to be. The darker the sky the better.also an interesting thing to pin out. Is if your living in a city/place with big population and skyscrapers/big cities it is gonna be sorta grayish. The reason for this is because usually the light pollution in the bortle scale is 7-8 THIS IS VERY HIGH. This is a tragedy for astronomers and astronomers only. Infact if your in one of these places or you can't see many stars if not stars at all the chances are your not gonna see much anyways. But if the conditions are like what I mentioned the maximum amount of stars you can see in the night sky is 20. I know very disappointing. I wish humans took better care of the world😢
