Telrad Finder Sight: amzn.to/2H8YZ4P
Telrad 2 inch Riser: amzn.to/2OK50ZJ
This has to be one of the simplest to install and use finder scopes out there! I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a new finder scope. Let me know what you think!

Definitely LOVE the Telrad. I ran into the same weight issue on my Dob so I put a strip of Velcro on the opposite end and used a bean bag with a Velcro strip that I could then move back and forth to compensate for the Telrad and any eyepiece or camera weight variations that came up.

Some people love finderscopes, some people don't. I never really liked using them - my trick is to swap eyepieces. I use my lowest power eyepiece to find an object, essentially using the entire scope as one giant finderscope. Then once i have the object centered, i very carefully switch out my eyepiece for the high-powered one. Sometimes this is much better than the Telrad, since you might not be able to see the object in the sky without magnification. Telrad works great for bright objects, but not as well when the object is faint or not close to known bright stars.

Heck yeah. Had one for 10 years now on my 10" dob. No-way I'd go without it on any big scope. Way easiest way to aim the scope in my opinion.

Wow! An Odyssey 8 from Coulter Optical. That was my first telescope back in 1988. And it had the same Telrad. That brings a lot of memories. Cool video, thanks!

Very nice odyssey 8 you have there sir. I recently picked up a odyssey 1. Mine is the big red one just like yours. Mine has some straps on the Telrad. I’m do plan on drilling holes and getting on there permanent. I also gotta get a 60mm finder scope for it too. This summer I’m replacing the focus with a 2 in low profile one. Later this next winter I’ll order a brand new mirror $2000 setback right there. I love the odyssey scope on how it sticks out from the crowd.

I am looking for a solution for my Zeiss Diascope 85. Unfortunately, the housing is not cylindrical, but rather it resembles a truncated cone.

Brilliant , just got my first scope late in life , a 10" Dob and I need a Telrad , especially with a riser , my necks a bit creaky . What I have never seen in a video is how do you figure out exactly where to put it ? What I mean is , do you use a spirit level somehow . How do you get that straight up and down positioning ? Cheers .

As far as getting it straight with the tube i just eyeballed it! You can adjust the Telrad to make up for any imperfections with alignment!

OK. New subscriber here AND I NEED YOUR HELP! I don't care from which astronomy dude, both astronomy dudes - anyone in the comments; how do I collimate my telescope? It's also a dinosaur (OMCON, Canadian company), from the 80's I am guessing, but I can not find a manual or anything about it online. Like your Odyssey, my OMCON 8" doesn't have the newer standard crosshair/spider web holding the secondary mirror (with 3 collimating hex screws and a center screw), in place. Mine has no collimating screws for the secondary mirror at all - it is fixed permanently to a single rod, threaded at both ends, with 1 nut inside and outside of the OTA, on each side. If anyone has any advice I sure would appreciate it. I have had this scope for about 2 weeks, and we've been so fortunate to have had consecutive clear skies. Moon looks great. Jupiter looks great. Saturn looks great. I wonder what they'd look like if I knew how to successfully collimate this thing. I take it out every night, but want this telescope at it's peak performance. When I look through the focuser at the secondary mirror I can see a half moon of black above the top right side of my left eyebrow. When I try to align the primary and secondary with the laser, the laser will be visible upon both mirrors, but also shooting out of the OTA. Any help would probably be very useful. Great video by the way. This telescope came with a Telrad, and I could not imagine an easier method to lock onto any bright object, in a matter of seconds. I love the Telrad. I want to love the telescope too!

Hi! My lightbridge has a GSO Red Dot Finder. Should I replace it with a telrad? Is it a better finder or there is no much difference? Thanks and clear skies

Can I use the telrad finder scope alone without the riser? I just bought one, just the finder not with the riser. I will reconsider buying the riser based on what you recommend.

You can definitely use the scope without the riser! I just like how the riser gets it away from the scope :)

i hate finder scopes and i've always used the telrad i don't understand why people still use finderscopes i guess they never used a telrad.
