Luminar Neo still does not support Nikon High Efficiency format RAW files. They will not process refunds if you purchased expecting file support like you get from all the other apps like Lightroom. They promise they will add the support in the "future" but will not let you pause your subscription until that happens. NIKON SHOOTERS STAY AWAY.

I can't believe we can't batch rename in this program. Such high hopes...Ouch. All these features and you can't rename more then one image at a time. It's like having a super car with no steering wheel...

This is about Luminar Neo and panoramas I just did some Astro Milky Way panoramas that I put into PTGui and needed some hours to get points in all images to other images. So after a long time and very tired I put into PS via Lr edits to all images synced. Very surprised that the panorama just popped up completely not once but in several options. I tried in Luminar Neo and got only one image?????
@jamesparker9312
@jamesparker9312 14 күн бұрын
I think I understand your question. Every time you send an image to Photoshop from Lightroom, it will ask you if you want to edit a copy. When you say "yes", do your edits in PS then save it, it makes a copy of the photo - you should see the file name change to "filename-Edit" the first time, then "filename-Edit-Edit" the second time, etc. When you stich a panorama directly in Luminar Neo, it simply creates the one image.

Excellent video...thanks!! I get the Adobe photographer package (LR & PS) and I often use them together, particularly when it comes to removing unwanted items. Additionally, I shoot a lot of HDR shots that LR handles quite easily. Does Neo process HDR images? Also, will Neo handle the images in the LR catalog? I really don't want to lose my edits. It sure is a big jump changing your "go to" software.
@JamesParkerPhotography
@JamesParkerPhotography 15 күн бұрын
Yes - Luminar Neo will do HDR merge as well. It’s a separate module though and not included in base software. You can send your edited images from LR to Luminar and back no problem. Operates like a plug in from inside PS or LR.

@@JamesParkerPhotography Thanks for getting back to me, James. If I ditch LR, are the LR catalogs still available and usable by Neo??
@JamesParkerPhotography
@JamesParkerPhotography 15 күн бұрын
@@iandavis1355 No - Luminar cannot read/load the LR catalogs. However, if you quit Adobe, you are able to access the LR catalogs and export images from it (with your edits intact) forever. You just don't have access to the develop module.

@JamesParkerPhotography 20 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I went back and looked again - while I'm not seeing a clear blue cast on the ND64, I will agree there may be a slight tint when I zoomed in on the log. Or it could be that the filter added a little saturation to the image that gave it that impression. Or it could be a white balance issue. Overall, it would be simple to adjust as needed in post should you want to warm it up. I will continue to test these and update with any findings.

I love the magnetic feature for ease of use, but I do with they were a little stronger. I bought a K&F kit a couple years ago that has a CPL, 10 stop, and UV. I've had at least one occasion that the filter fell off with a slight bump, but I've also had other times where it held on very well. My kit didn't come with the lens cap, but my plan, which hasn't happened yet, has been to get a 3 and a 6 stop ND which would each include the adapter ring and the lens cap. The additional adapter rings would prevent the need to move it from lens to lens.
@JamesParkerPhotography
@JamesParkerPhotography 29 күн бұрын
That’s odd. I found the magnets almost too strong. I do wish they made a kit that had CPL, 3,6, and 10 stop. That would be perfect.

I found the same thing. On several occasions the filter fell off. I’ve moved to the Freewell M2 system. A $150 price point for the kit was a deal, IMO.

I am not so happy the way Luminar Neo 1.19.1 handles the deleted images! most of the time after I am done editing photos and finished exporting i would like to remove them from catalog! Luminar Neo moves them to Lumiinar trash and if you empty trash Luminar moves everything to system trash rather than just removing it from Luminar! I did not know that, luckily I did not empty the system trash and was able to recover my images. I like the HDR extension which was included his time (change of policy! good move) but it lacks some the features that Aurora HDR had. Tons of useless presets and other stuff came with my purchase too! in general I am not so enthused with the presets that came with Luminar Neo! I think Luminar 2018 and Luminar 4 had much better presets.

Thanks James, that was really interesting. I've been using Luminar Neo for some time now, as my Lightroom Classic V.6 is somewhat long in the tooth and I am not prepared to make a subscription to Adobe to upgrade. You have put my mind at rest to a degree, as I too found Neo focus stacking to be near useless for my work case. I tend not to use a tripod when I am out on the fly, so although I try to keep the camera as still as possible, inevitably there will always be slight movement. I previously used Adobe Photoshop, which did a far better job. Let's hope Skylume take notice of your criticism as I really like this photo editing software.

Hi James - total newbie question, sorry. How are you getting multiple photos of exactly the same thing in different exposures before you use HDR merge? Does that happen in camera at the point of shooting or during import, or in LN itself?
@JamesParkerPhotography
@JamesParkerPhotography Ай бұрын
Merging to HDR requires multiple exposures that you take beforehand. It’s also called bracketing. You create these in camera by changing the shutter speed. Most cameras can automatically do this with 3, 5, 7, and even 9 photos. I never use more than 5.

Image Stabilization doesn't do sh!t if you put the camera on the tripod to shoot stills. IS only helps when you are doing hand-held with slow shutter speed. If your shutter speed is fast enough, you don't even need IS.

Hate the fact it blurs the photo when you're moving any sliders around, so you cannot see what it's actually done until you stop. Plus never adding what they said they would, just bought out a new version every time. Waste of money, bad practice business wise.

I like some of the features of Neo and bought the base product, but I'm not a fan of how their pricing model has evolved. Hiding the useful features you mention behind paid extensions is not something I'm going to support. IMHO everything in the extensions should be included with the base software.
@JamesParkerPhotography
@JamesParkerPhotography Ай бұрын
Dave - I get it. Hopefully they have not penalized early purchasers and taken away features unless they agree to pay more. I think the base program is still a great editing solution for a lot of photographers. Another way to consider it is you pay for what you need/want. If you have zero need for HDR or Panorama stitching you don't have to pay for it. It's like adding options to a car - you can get the base model for a cheaper price or the fully loaded with adaptive cruise control, auto climate, heated seats, etc.

True points. I follow each of the photographers you mentioned and have viewed those videos. I suspect too that the photography, especially landscape, pool is shrinking. I see tours where people are pulling out their iphones to capture a scene at a classic location. Possibly the constant upgrading by the camera/ lens producers has burned people to the idea of heavily investing in something that is obsolete within a few short years. Add to that the critics that social media have generated that feel they must make negative comments on videos of perceived shortcomings and it becomes a tough business. I just enjoy creation and am glad that my day can end any time I wish.

TBH - I don't let it bother me. I became a photographer and educator because it's what I love doing. If I'm forced to do something that I hate, why did I give up my day gig I was bored to tears with years ago? My advice is to not make KZbin your sole source of income. I do much more than just landscape photography - I spread mine out to include workshops, teaching 1 on 1 via the internet, doing residential real estate photography, and automotive photography. All it is controlled by me 100%

It was hazy even in Seattle area October 2022. It was bad everywhere in Cali, Oregon, Washington, and way up into Canada. Leavenworth itself is so pretty! Shame about the fires in the PNW. A mask that filters out smoke particles helps with breathing at least. Personally, I simply seal my home during that time. Ducttape on windows, doors, and a HEPA filter for the AC.

I think that as long as it does not malfunction and start oscillating trying to correct itself, it should help. Tripods still have vibration. Attach a laser pointing at the ground and you will see there is far more vibration than you would think. Of course if you really don't need it, then you can save battery life with it off.
