Frozen! | Winter Waterfalls in the Gorge |

After 2 days of blizzard conditions I carefully made my way back to the gorge to capture the waterfalls as they freeze in the arctic conditions.

Horsetail and Latourelle are awesome in the ice. I use those handwarmers you can stick in your gloves. They work best with mittens. Especially liked the Horsetail shot.

Unfortunately Latourell is closed for trail repairs so no way to get a photo of it until that's completed.. I have used the little packets in the gloves before. I'm thinking a hybrid approach will work best for me - glove liners, gloves, then mittens with some sort of warmer - either the little packets or a battery heated glove.

Good content and good photos, I like the one at 5:22 in particular! Regarding the gloves, I've personally been using 3 layers lately in temperatures down to about -30 F: A thin but still fairly warm pair of "base-layer" gloves for dexterity, and thick goatskin mittens on top of these with wool liner inserts. These mittens are made to be fairly roomy. Tight fitting ones tend to get a lot colder. I keep these on while hiking and take them off whenever I need to work with my camera. I've attached them to my wrists so it's pretty quick and easy to take them on/off. I haven't felt the need to use hand warmers of any sort, but keeping a pack of chemical warmers in your bag is always a good idea! Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I just ordered a pair of heated mittens with the tips that fold back. I plan on using them with a base layer and adding chemical packs if I need to. I'll be sure to report back if they are a success.

I really like your image down stream of Bridal Veil, nicely done. As for gloves, I hope you do a followup video, if you find something. I'm also looking for something that actually works. I resorted to simply putting those cheap chemical hand warmers straight into my glove and even then my finger tips were cold when it was 2 degrees outside.

I found fingered gloves are usless in cold weather. I switched to the mitten style gloves that you can fold back the tip of the mitten . I also put hand warmers in the tips so when you flip them back over your finger tips thaw out faster

I just ordered a pair of heated mittens with the fold back tips. I'm hoping that will make a difference.

Great photos! Did you use a circular polarizer?

All but the last image. Ice was forming too fast so I’d leave the polarizer on till I was ready to shoot then pop it off, take the photo, then put it back on to keep the main lens clear.
