One of my regular walks. Thanks for covering it. I like walking it most years and hope to walk it again in April (or before, depending on weather. Hopefully the path down the East side of Loch Oich will have re-opened by then. The walk on the other side is closed-in with vegetation which restricts the view too much for me! I too have been hit by a storm passing up the glen. Two years ago, I was camping at Laggan Locks, in a pleasant sunny evening, very calm.... then a storm appeared above Fort William and came steadily up the glen.. it hit me 20 minutes later... heavy rain and very strong winds... then passed by after 15 minutes.....fortunately no damage! Of passing interest...... the hulk of the boat at 14'20" is the remains of an old car ferry that used to convey cars many years ago across the Ballachulish narrows, but the bridge was built about 50 years ago. If you "Google" it, you will see what the old ferries looked like. Happy walking. :-)

Thats fascinating actually….I feel due to it being our first trip together we kinda didn’t focus much on any historical things…I feel like though there is a lot around great glen way and pretty interesting ones…yeah the east side by loch oich was a bummer we had to miss…it’s not nothing special the upper path there…storms can be scary…I’m used to thunder storms which is even worse but here the sudden hit and high winds or mist can be very challenging too 😬 glad all went well and it was fast over. Good luck on the walk I’d be curious to know how it went and if the loch oich path reopened.

Lovely video! Well done 😊 did you pre book your camp sites ahead of time and what time of year did you complete it? Did you do much hiking to prepare for it? Thanks. I’m planning on doing this soon!
@evachjourney3 ай бұрын
@@foreverirish132 thanks for watching! 😊 I did pre book the campsites as I was going in beginning of July and read it might be difficult to have a spot as it can get busy specially in July and August. If I’d do it again with campings I think I’d just book Drymen and Loch Lomond ones and wink the rest - wild camp if necessary. As the ones around Loch Lomond tend to get busy. Bainglas farm seams to have always places so does Glen Nevis…black water is small campsite but they seamed to be very accommodating. I bought the Harveys book West Highland way maybe a year before the actual walk and slowly read through look at places and distances in there but the real planning I did in one very intense afternoon and booked everything as it was maybe 3-4 weeks before the hike and I was worried there will not be a way for me to book campsites later. Which later I read of other people they missed the chance… So in conclusion - I’d pre book all few weeks in advance even maybe 1-2 months specially if July and August, but if you’re comfortable wild camping I’d mix it up with that as well as it will give you freedom of pitching whenever you feel like and not needing to be in certain destination by the end of the day. Specially WHW I found very safe when comes to wild camping as there’s just so many people doing so all in the same mindset that it’s just one big community. I used do hikes before but never such large distances. I think I went maybe 1-2 times in April/may with big backpack just for a hike in close by hills but that was not even 10k. All my other hikes were just day trips and not big distances. I run a little bit before but I just did my first 5k run couple of months before this hike that’s all so I wasn’t really fit for it. It’s def better and easier and probably more enjoyable when one is a bit stronger as I had to really dig deep first few days to keep going. I liked it that way as that’s what I needed back then, but after that I’ve decided to get a bit fitter and stronger. If you’re doing it like now still in this year than check if the campsites and places are still open as they tend to close down the season in mid of October.

Thx for telling your story. I had a similar blister experience when I walked the WHW 2 years ago. I developed a huge blister on my left heel on a very rainy day 2 over Conic Hill to Rowardennan. And I had walked a lot of miles in my shoes before. Don't know why that happened, maybe it was the rain and wet feet. I had a hard time along Loch Lomond until Tyndrum since teh blister opened... Painful time. But in the end it is what it is and the views and experiences on the way outweigh the struggles. I also had a lot of rain during my journey but that didn't bother me at all. My favorite part was Rannoch Moor since it is so vast. And yes, Kinlochleven is the true capitol of Midges ;-) Happy hiking from Germany...
