Days Gone might not grab you from the get go, but it really does develop into one of the best open world experiences.

Thx for the video. I added a few to my list i forgot or didnt know about. Now everyone has differnet impression of what an open world game should be like and there are many approaches. So here are some i really liked or at least enjoyed and which might go under the radar: -Outer Wilds (don't mix up with "The Outer Worlds"!) A handcrafted small solar system with lots of stuff to explore. You have to unfold the origin of some happenings there, it has a cool gameplay twist and anything you encounter is some other worldly thing you have to take into account to keep on with your own quest but also to unravel mysteries and stories of other alien races. -Lorns Lure A small climbing / jump but dont have to run gem. It has a vast open world yet the path is strict. I surely love the vast loneliness and the calm playthrough. There were 2 things the dev changed recently that really didnt match the whole other gameplay parts - some kind of chases. I really hated the chase parts but as i said the dev just implemented a version where you can play a slow explorative variant of these chases. It also has some secret challenging levels, you will only unlock if you get all the collectibles in story mode. -State of Decay 2 Juggernaut Edition Iam not sure if it is underrated but i rarely see videos. A mix between survival and action 3rd person zombie slasher. -System Shock (remastered) Just got the game and i like the oldschoolish gameplay approach and story mixed with the colorful artstyle. -Echo Though it has a strict route, the game feels like a vast open world. The world itself is a little bit monotonous but the gameplay idea behind is what i really liked. No other NPCs, Quests and such to talk to, just a one-time-through experience with challenging kinda puzzle levels. -Pulsar: Lost Colony You need at least 1 friend. It is possible solo as there are bots but this game is designed to play with friends. A Star Trek like open world with different factions and quests. It doesnt look very good and the ground combat falls flat but it offers a lot to explore and you have to work together to keep your ship running. -Blood West Dark Wild West Shooter. Not as long to play, but i liked the whole game and gameplay. -Caves of Qud Hard game with a very oldschool pixel top down artsyle. super rich world with lots of things to explore and to happen. rogue like runs and option to play with saves or permadeath (supposed to be played with permadeath) -The Forgotten City Originally a Skyrim mod. They made a standalone on steam. Interesting story and fun to explore. -Gedonia Super oldschool like RPG. Play any of your usual RPG-classes and explore the world and quest. If you get to the endgame your character becomes quite strong, which is the only downside...but maybe it was also because i played a mage and could fly anywhere :P. Second game in the making. -A Hat in Time Super Mario stylish -Nauticrawl Figure out how to control this submarine like thing. Dont watch to much, anything will be a spoiler. Took me 3,1 hours to finish. -The Sexy Brutale Small and anot so hard puzzle game or rather figure out how to stop several killings. Cool theme. -Tinykin A small pikmin like game. Not too hard gameplay but still fun. -Wasteland 3 Very rich with characters and story. Turn based combat. Postapocalyptic. Great music. Games i haven't played yet but think they are good: -Pathologic 2 -Dread Delusion

Entire God of war franchise sold 66 million copies now look at RDR2, this single game sold more than 67 million copies itself. Game of the year is totally rigged and needs to be avoided. I'm not saying God of war 4 was bad by any means but it is nowhere near as good as RDR2 is and was.

I feel like Ghost of Tsushima should have found it's place on this list, and a honorable mention to Subnautica

These are generally very good games but you're too hyperbolic. There's plenty of grind, filler and some boring moments in even the best open world games, even RDR2. I think a better focus would just be on the physical environments rather than on story or characters.

Any list without Red Dead Redemption 1 or 2 is absolute trash and the creator is braindead

Timesplitters 2...Id take BF Vietnam over 42 but thats just personal...else "Vietcong" was my most favorite game in the early 2000s, online FPS, cod was very inspired by that gameplay so they even copied it for their first ever call of duty...and now how many cods are out there? I stopped playing that series more than 1 decade ago...also the first insurgency was really fire, just because in that time it was very refreshing , the same as Tribes: Ascent, very fun games...as a kid on my playstation...id go with MoH Frontlines all day, this game was so fire to me as a kid i will never forget - like the first Turok! Where my Serious Sam Fans btw? :D but thats not 30 years tho, what the oldest game on the list? HL1? that 98, id mention the first UT in the same breath... - rest of the list is all after 2000 mh? my personal top 20 list (not in any particualr order, and only the games i've played). 1. red dead redemption 2 2. mass effect trilogy (if i have to pick one then the second). 3. empire total war (not everyone's cup of tea but all those musketeers and europe in that era is really fun for me) (shogun 2 close second) 4. last of us (i've only played the first) 5. uncharted trilogy 6. cities skyline (the best city building game ever - surpassed simcities by a lot) 7. starcraft 2 (one of the best RTS ever, and very very very high skill ceiling. i'm not very good at it lol) 8. fallout 3 and new vegas (3 is slightly better for me since it's less 'fantasy-ish') 9. persona 3-5 (3 was very good considering the era) 10. stronghold/ crusader (the original) idk i just really really liked it. very old school RTS. 11. Rainbowsix Vegas 1/2 and SWAT4. really really fun tactical third person shooter 12. euro truck simulator 2 13. death stranding (idk, bloody weird but somehow was great for me during the 2020-2023 lockdown) 14. europa universallis II (probably) 15........... (can't choose from below) ______ very good but didn't make the list for me GTA 4/5, stellaris, dragon age origin (the first one?), heavy rain, LA noire, frostpunk, crisis, god of war games, CoD 2, making history II, company of heroes 1, the other worlds (by obsedian), NFS carbon (the only racing game i was in to ever).
