Wanted to ask you how you go with launch and retrieve with the boat - especially on beach/creek launch, and if the boat/outboard bottoms out? due to the height of trailer etc I am half way through a trailer build and trying to work out a solution so that my tinny wont bottom out when launching and retrieving- Any tips or advice would;d be awesome- Thanks ! Thanks - I am only up the road from you fellas , but didn't want to rock up and be rude- so thought id ask on here - cheers

Having owned both a 79 series-kidney buster, and now a 200 series vx. For comparison, and I've towed heavy trailers being at and over 3.8t (yes, overweight), the 79 series was absolutely useless, couldn't pull skin off a custard. Got to the point that I wasn't going to spend any money on the 79 to up grade it. Sold it and bought a 200 series no regrets. The 79 is a glorified farm and mining ute. They will go all day, every day no doubt, they are more reliable than anything else on the road, built for the rural outback, and are the ultimate work and bush truck. Agree they are so not a comfortable touring vehicle at all, no matter how much you are willing to spend upgrading it. I see old folk climbing out of their 79's at parks and truck stops etc towing their big arse vans, battling to stand up straight from being cramped in, can't help but laugh 😂😅😂 Over priced for what you get.
@thumburnfishingАй бұрын
Definitely true what you say it’s a image thing that people build these for touring 79 series and what a waste of time cutting a 200 just buy a yank tank they were in Australia long before Toyota ever were. Chevy ford and dodge these trucks built half the roads Toyota drive on today if you look into Australian history

It's pretty common with aftermarket fabbed tanks to kill petrol fuel pumps over time due to material not cleaned out before fitment, a couple of good magnets in the bottom might help.
@thumburnfishingАй бұрын
That’s a good idea I’ll remember that for next time some does a pump change out

If your Ram is V8 petrol and you have filled your truck at a certain fishing camp in the NT that we both frequent its quite likely the metal flakes in your tank come from that particular fuel supply. Their bulk tank used to be filled from 44s and I had the exact same stuff in my boat's fuel tank. I know that they receive their fuel by road tanker now but for years it was all transported from Mataranka in drums so you would think that their tank would still have residue rust flakes still present. Of course I could be wrong but it seems to be too much of a coincidence. Cheers.

Another lovely ep with real world experience, I reckon your boat trailer is one of the best if not the best boat Trailers I've seen in 42 years of going up north, My trailer is good but not as good as yours I still run old teck as I Am not sure how to work out the Swing arm set up for the Airbags, I love that set up of yours with the airs bags, On my old girl I have all HJ75 running gear Toyota spindles and hubs and bearings and disc brakes and calipers, also HJ75 front springs, and U Bolts and fisher plates, Axle is 75 x 75 x 4mm with 65 x 65 x 4mm box up its guts, I have also mounted Coils in the trailer as well, had this axle under trailers since 1996 and coils where fitted in the last 8 years. I love your oil bath bearing set up thats the best I've seen, I just use MBL cooper grease in my bearings I've found it to be unreel grease. on the farm and around the salt environment. Thanks for sharing,
@thumburnfishingАй бұрын

very useful comments about standard trailers - thanks for highlighting problems with them. Very yseful for me as I am building a boat trailer now. You mentioned failures of aftermarket independent suspension - was it the trailing arms that cracked or other component?
@thumburnfishingАй бұрын
Freinds have used independent brought suspension the airbags are usually to small and have to run very high pressure sometimes up to 100psi and the shock mounts break off the shocks are too small and cook fthe seals pissing out oil on the corrugated roads this all depends on how harsh the roads are and how bad the bulldust holes are speed that you travel and weight in boat fuel water camping gear ect also November temperatures certainly don’t help Thanks for watching

I built my own steel RHS trailer for the NT roads recently. Every thing is double u-bolts utilising 5/8 high tensile u-bolts and shackle spring keeper plates underneath the u-bolts connected to them to spread the load across rhe support or chassis. Adds weight, but The Bitterness of Poor Quality Remains Long After the Sweetness of Low Price is Forgotten. More so whennyour laying on the side of a dirt road in the buildup.
