Prefer the 36mm JLC moonphase. The 39mm version just looks too big. Wears more than a 42mm because it’s all dial.

JLC's current $11.9k MSRP does not hold up well on the secondary market, so the UTM is not a watch I'd recommend buying new from boutique. I'd instead recommend looking into the secondary market where you can find these UTMs at a steep discount, starting at around $7,000 (reference ending in '20' is on the lower end, '30' ending reference is a bit higher).

Keep it simple and straightforward. The perfect combo is a Explorer 40mm and a Tudor GMT (with the Tudor leather strap / buckle as well). Takes you from the crib to the grave.

Personally I think the 36mm 1016 is the best looking Explorer ever made.. later iterations have lost the charm - being a classic Rolex tool watch in the Rolex-bling era.
