most likely after the 211’s completion. then the R68 -> R268. i dont think the r68s will retire yet. some 46’s are gone 5-10 of them. the R62/A will go after the R68 or before. the reason the W will get the 211’s because 68’s on the W look trash. the 7 is clean, the 1/3 will get R142’s and probably more R142A’s from the 4/6 will be on the 7. so the 7 might get even more R188’s . the C definitely needs R211’s because some people hate the delay in “the next stop is” but my prediction for the R262/268’s will be by 2026-2040. or 2025-2030. its one of these dates according to my calculations if the R62 retire. there would be the lack of fleets on the IRT.

The R142s are not retiring. Only the R62/as are getting replaced by the R262/as for Cbtcs. The R62/as cannot handle cbtcs. However the R62as got replaced by the R17s R14s R15s R21/22s back in 1983 1987. In 2003 the R62as on the Flushing line got replaced by the R33s wf Redbirds on the Flushing line and the R142/as got Replaced by the Redbirds on the Pelham line and Jerome avenue 4 line and the 2/5 trains . The R62s that was on the Jerome avenue 4 line went to the 3 line for a replacements of the R62as that used to be on the Broadway 3 line.

Keep in mind they will definitely have mix equipments R262s open gateways and the R262AS close ways.

The R262As close ways will definitely be on the 8 Thrid Avenue Elevated line or the R342As to replace the R12S R14s that used to run.

When I saw the R262s they had those rolling signs that was up to 1 to 24 and they showed the Old baby blue 8 signs that used to run on the 3rd Avenue elevated line between Gun Hill road and 149 Street 3rd Avenue Bronx

The MTA will update the signals on every single lines for Cbtcs . Just give them time to work on the signals modizasoins.
