They are still there, which will amaze you. Most modern Asian countries put on a show for tourists. When I started traveling to the Philippines and Thailand, I was amazed with the number of people who had dark skin and stereotypical African features. You have to understand that there is a lot of colorism and marketing bias in Asia, though. It's hard to find dark-skinned Asians on TV, in movies, or in commercials unless they're being shown in a bad light. But they are still there.

Incredible to think that this film is 95 years old (won't be long before it's a century old!) but the dresses don't look strange but a woman could wear any of those shown today and would get compliments on them. The spokeswoman was surprisingly modern in her demeanour and spoke perfect English!

I'm a Westerner, and honestly, it always breaks my heart to see how most non-Western cultures, including the Chinese, abandoned their traditional clothing in favour of our style in the 20th century. The only detail I'm glad the Chinese abandoned is female foot-binding (although one might argue that high heels aren't much of an improvement!).
