Hello, this is DGSpitzer!
Hope you enjoy my latest colorization video using artificial intelligence!
Today’s footage is from 90 years ago, January 3rd, 1930,filmed in New York, a English speech by “Princess” Der Ling about world peace between China and United States.
She was the former interpreter as the first lady-in-waiting for Empress Dowager Cixi in the late Qing Dynasty of China.
The orginal footage is from Moving Image Research Collections, University of South Carolina, Fox Movietone News Collection
The picture reference for AI colorization process are collected from several museum archives such as Palace Museum in Beijing, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York
Thank to ”Vivy Has a Dream” helping me find those source. You can check out her KZbin channel as well: / viviannayan
AI Restoration using PaddleGAN, DAIN, DeepRemaster, Deep Exemplar-Based Colorization, DFDNet module of BasicSR, and Topaz Video Enhance AI for upscaling.

She received a western education, learning French and English, and studying dance in Paris. Der Ling died in Berkeley, California, as a result of being struck by a car while crossing an intersection in 1944. She was 59.

I have to say - considering De Ling's former and wartime position this sounds like a super-suspicious death to me. Did they even investigate whether it was an assassination either by the various Chinese political parties (CCP, KMT or anyone else) or by the Japanese?

As Chinese, is interesting to see that she reference English as "The British language" back then. Is not how we reference English like today.

As happy, this sentence doesn't make any sense. You need to say "As a Chinese person, ...." Chinese is an adjective except when referring to the language or the group. You can say "The Chinese value strength." But you cannot say "I am a Chinese." Unless you are a language, which you aren't, so you can't.

What in the world are you complaining about? We are simply astounded for her great mastery of the English language, since there were not many resources back then. Shall we look at you then? Living in a time of tremendous resources yet you still made many errors in an extremely simple sentence, shall you not be ashamed? I shall correct you sentence, and you shall correct your insolence and impertinence: She “was” a diplomat and a princess of “the” time. What do you expect? “There” must have “been” “the” best tutors and teachers (for her) in order to learn “English”. No mistakes “were” “allowed”.

Lizzie Yù Délíng doesn't count, because technically she was born and raised outside of the Forbidden City and was already surrounded by Western influences. Also, she's not really a Qing dynasty "Commandery Princess" as that term does not apply to the Qing Dynasty imperial system like it does for Western Imperial rankings, because she's not related to the Aisin-Gioro imperial family, nor married to any. Dowager Empress Cixi, just liked having her around at the time and to remain in the palace, both her and her sister were given titles fit for a Lady-In-Waiting, but not officially, as they would have to serve the Emperor as well if that was the case.
@oentoengjahja712

correct, she wasn't a princess, in fact she and her sister were driven out from forbidden city for scandal corruption, she and her sister only lived in forbidden city for two years, and I had read books from her, full of mistakes to describe about Qing imperial lives.

As a hindsight to the Alaska' talk between US and China, unfortunately, after 90 years, American rulers still don't understand or are too arrogant to accept what princess said. Maybe thats why the footage can only be found in the "ARCHIVE". How sarcastic it is! Sorry for being political and but great work of recolorization science!
@anonymouse527

Please don't combine two separate topics; politics and culture. Americans love Chinese culture just as much as Chinese love American culture. As for politics, which part of the Alaska talk didn't you like?
@karitawoodbridge1451
@karitawoodbridge1451 3 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree with you on this but I dont think either side went into this talk expecting to work together. It really makes me sad. The world could be an amazing place if we learned to think globally and respect each other. I cant speak for every country but I do know that America is a long way away from that. 😞 I hope that one day we do learn to get along instead of just dominating others. Looking back on world history though, it doesnt seem promising.

@@iLoveBagons well, I'm an American and you mentioned displeasure with my public servants (we don't call them "rulers" here). So if there is a specific point you wanted them to understand, the best way is to convince the Americans. If more of us realize the inadequacy of our public representatives then we can vote for better ones.

She was a princess inside of the forbidden city only, not to the outside world. The empress dowager highly favored her and wished her to stay by her side and never leave the palace/court, and she tried many ways to make her to have to stay (tried to force her to marry someone who lived nearby, so she could always be close). Princess Der Ling was very independent and much more modern as she was raised with western values, so she wish to marry someone of her own choice and live her life the way she wished. To the rest of the court, by giving her and also her sister these titles, it showed how they were very special to her, as there were a lot of actual princesses in the court she did not like, so she mostly gave them these titles to elevate them so they were not so below everyone (rank status was very important especially as a part of etiquette).
