I am mentally ill, it runs in my family. And this video was so pure, in such good taste, so well done, and so funny! This character is RELATABLE! She doesn't seem crazy, just a bit...on edge. You know when you're like 1 nail polish smudge away from running someone over with your car. I get this. I feel this in my soul. Actually, I had a very poor mental health day, I spent 80% of the day worrying, and the rest crying because what I was worrying about was stressful. This video is exactly what I needed. A laugh. As someone who has spent months in mental health hospitals, I can't help but feel irked when people portray psychosis as fun or quirky. I could only get a few minutes into the video before I got angry and had to close the tab. EDIT: I need to clarify since people are twisting my words. I'm not "offended." There's nothing offensive about this video. I'm just pointing out a lack of awareness. People with psychotic disorders deal with misconceptions (at best) and stigma (at worst) every day; so unless you yourself have a psychotic disorder, don't consider yourself qualified to comment on whether or not my concerns are valid. And no, having ADD or depression does not qualify you to comment on issues regarding psychosis. Mental illness /= psychosis. It's obvious that Maria didn't make this video with ill intent. I don't think she has an ounce of malice in her heart. That does not, however, take away from the fact that the content of this video contributes to the culture of misinformation that surrounds psychotic disorders and fuels the stigma around them. The term 'cray cray,' for instance, is not harmless; it's flippant and detracts from the weight of psychotic disorders. Prancing about a mock padded cell and acting cute and quirky is, in my opinion, the mental illness equivalent of black face. No one would treat cancer or AIDS or even depression with this level of irreverence. Are there more important things out there? Yeah. Which is why my original comment was so off-the-cuff. I didn't expect or intend for this to blow up the way it did.

I'm so over all the butthurt comments. The majority of the people who are offended have never been an inpatient or been diagnosed with a mental illness, which is ridiculous. It seems all the former patients seem to be aware of one thing: that this isn't to target ANYONE or mock/mimic any illness in particular, it's just Maria expressing her goofy side for Halloween, without all the blood and gore. Some former inpatients have even said they appreciate this because it doesn't portray mental patients as frightening, as most movies do. Honestly, she sounds like she's a kid on a sugar high more than anything. She even has thickened her accent to resemble the bride of Frankenstein and is doing silly things that mental health patients dont even do. I majored in psychology, so I have SOME clue about mental illnesses and what I'm talking about. Somehow, someone somewhere is offended by something, whether it's what she eats, her views on feminine traits, her spiritual beliefs, etc....stop tearing her apart. She has the right to branch out and try different roleplays. This one is her way of doing a light hearted Halloween theme in October. She even calms down halfway through the video for all you people complaining it wasn't relaxing! Please also keep in mind that the majority of us use the word "crazy" in every day life. We don't mean it in a negative way or to offend mental health patients! I think it's time everyone just relaxes. If you don't like something, turn it off. It's that simple. Dont write an angry novel, criticizing her or calling her insensitive, threatening to unfollow her! Maria works EXTREMELY hard to make these videos for YOUR relaxation! She doesn't even have to! Let her be goofy for Halloween if she wants and please, stop taking everything as a personal attack when you know full well, that was NEVER her intention.

LOL at the offended comments. I have a lot of mental health issues. I actually had a panic attack an hour ago and am using this video to calm down. it's funny! I bet a ton of us who watch ASMR deal with depression and anxiety problems at LEAST. it's okay to laugh at yourselves sometimes. I act like a crazy person sometimes, I really do. Depression and anxiety are not psychotic/personality disorders like the generic kind Maria is trying to play here. Despite them all being grouped under 'mental illness', they aren't comparable so it's fairly irrelevant. Just because you do not personally find something offensive doesn't mean that it isn't, or that it doesn't contribute to the perpetuation of stigma to those with psychotic disorders.

rach I said people who watch ASMR seem to AT LEAST probably have depression and anxiety, since those are fairly common. I know they're not all the same, I just meant that the ASMR community seems to be a haven for a large umbrella of people with mental illnesses. So a video like this comes off to me not as ridiculing outsiders but more like an opportunity for us all to chuckle at our issues for a little bit. But mostly, I really do think this mostly parodies how bizarre it feels to asmrtists to sit alone in a room whispering and stroking cameras for hours in the dark.

And as I mentioned before, having a non-psychotic mental illness can't be compared to having a psychotic mental illness. As someone who has depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD I see nothing wrong with this video. Dealing with mental illness is difficult but it's even more difficult if you take everything so seriously and don't have a sense of humor about it. Most comedians have depression and anxiety issues. Humor is a good coping mechanism.
