To me the tone is night and day. The 0.047 is by far the tastier tone. Fuller and not too bright but plenty bright enough.

This works well on a decent and high end amps but when it comes to low end and cheap amp, trust me you'll prefer to be on the lower capacitance spectrum. I've tried humbucker with .047 on a cheap ass amp and it sound muffled as fuck almost couldn't bare to listen.

thanks for this ,,, it helps me, Im trying to find a big range tone ... 1 idea. instead of soldering, just have the 2 wires coming out and a bit of connector block, and put the next capacitor straight in ... or crocodile clips .. even faster
@@ekwnfhwndgv561have you tried it with a single coil?

I've tried 500k with .022uf. A little bright. Ok at first but I got sick of it after a few months. 250k with .047uf. Nice and warm but seems to have lost the brighter or sharper tone. I want to keep the warm tone but also want back the bright tone. When using distortion you get that vintage sound but you lose that bright chainsaw distortion.

I don't see the point in choking the highs as much as the 047, especially in the neck position.

thanks for the comparison!...my Giannini tele came with dime sized 500k pots and a tiny .047 capacitor for the humbucker... and it sounds great (better than yours I think). Still, I am thinking about upgrading to CTS pots and orange drop capacitor. but it seems that everyone offers only the .022 in their wiring harness. Guessing that it is only the Charlatans (like us) who use humbuckers in teles.

Fralin should let you pick whatever tone cap you want

Thanks for the video. Is the pot 500k or 250k?

Liked .047 in this demo a good deal more, but as a commenter suggested .033 mixed might be an interesting experiment for both pickups. Thanks so much for recording this demo it was very useful. Edit: now I‘m not so sure, I like both but .022 sounds more modern.

Great video but you spend more time with the tone up and down than you do letting us hear the actual tone but only for sometimes literally a half a second. SLOW DOWN!! Relax. You aren't on the clock. lol I give this video 5 out of 10. If you let us hear the tone for 5 seconds before ruining it by turning the tone so low that NOBODY would play there. Not even you. I would give it 10 out of 10 if I actually had a chance to hear the comparison instead of just watching you play with knobs. lol

Is the capacitor orange drop or pio
@PedalScience6 ай бұрын
Not PIO probably just a regular film cap IIRC

@@PedalScience if i play punk music bridge position on my chinese les paul what would you recommend changing aside from pick up? Capacitor ? Volume or tone pot? I mostly do bridge at full volume and tone 9-10 The sounds sounds ok with the gibson pick up installed on bridge but i feel theres muddiness going on. Not sure if its the cheap stock capacitor, pots, or wires
@PedalScience6 ай бұрын
Could be worth checking the pot values and sweeps with a multimeter if you are comfortable doing so. The cap value shouldn't make any difference when the tone knob is wide open. New strings also help brighten things up of course, and I'm a big fan of treble boosters
@EM-km8em5 ай бұрын
Do you have a treble booster here?

Ur comparison was too far apart, trying to remember the eaxct tone, then you play a separate piece of music, man this didn't help.

I have tortured myself over this subject. Its like do I like 60 watt bulbs or 65 watt? Ridiculous comparison of course but it does seem like it at times. I am temped to do a guitar mod with a 3 position switch on perhaps a external wire so its not a invasive install..022 on off .047 on. Of course that leads to how swap capacitors. Its big subject for such small parts.

Have you seen the stew mac video where they have a muli selector switch inline? Each position has a different capacitor. Easy to hear the differences...
