What I envy about artists is that they can give away or sell their stuff. I’ve given away free my animal art stuff and it’s very difficult. I spend so much time on them that when they’re gone I actually miss them.

Yes, let us sincerely hope that what we have created is being enjoyed by someone else!

@@Craftsmanship-Process I have no doubt what’s created is greatly enjoyed. I get the same thing. They love what I made so the missing is less knowing how much they like the art. Same with your customers. I bet those who buy these crafts of these artists has some bragging rights. Just look at this perfection! I feel so honored watching these craftsmen and women doing what they do best.

My mom struggles to understand this as well, especially if it’s given away for free. She said “if you put so much effort and you don’t make money what’s the use? You spend money on it why not sell it or keep it forever” But that’s not how Artists work, we create because there’s something inside us that pushes the ideas. We work, complete and send it off. Part of it is because keeping it feels Like you imprisoned an idea that was meant to be free. Once a project is done it no longer feels totally yours. Keeping a lot of projects almost feels like a disservice to the world.

@@yadiaag7771 no one wants to buy my stuff. But yeah they’ll take it for free. I work, complete and keep most. I also date them and it reminds me of that stage of life and I can see the improvement and also I change techniques to make them better. For me once a project is done it still feels like mine but with my crappy memory I can’t remember doing it until I look at the date I put on it. i don’t think keeping a lot of projects is like a disservice to the world as many of my projects Input on display in two windows and my front door I have hanging at various times my hanging animal art. More for me than anyone else. I flea marketed my earlier work years ago and only sold $25 worth. I had just started back then so most were crap. I still have them. They remind me of better times. I do my art just to keep myself occupied. I like doing art as a distraction. And I miss them when they’re gone. Then I forget what I gave away.

Well, the Japanese “work ethic” also consists of people working for 12 hours but only getting paid for eight of them. Have you heard of “karoshi?” Which means “death due to overwork.” I dont think you really want any of that.
