I've been alternating between the two wooden pencils today so that I can get a better feel for the writing experience of each. I think wooden pencils are better suited for artists. I'm a note-taker/journaler and I prefer fountain pens, gel pens, and mechanical pencils. But I guess I'll stick with the wooden pencils a little longer for research purposes...🤓

The Mitsubishi 9850 writes darker. They are not the same.

I don't use wood pencils often. I'm sure that if I used them regularly the differences would be more apparent. 😀

I appreciate that they were kind and considerate enough to label it with the "Graphite" label. I'd hate to mistakenly get "lead" poisoning. 😁😁

For layout I like mechanical pencils better than conventional because of the way they lay (lie?, shoot, I can't remember!) against a ruler and even width lines. For the drawing and shading, smudging, etc, I like my Faber-Castell 9000's. I think you would notice a difference in the quality of the graphite more. Also paper. I realize you know the difference paper makes! Might I suggest also that you note/review the consistency of the graphite over the entire length/life of the pencils in a "Long Term Pencil Review"? Some not-so-cheap pencils have inconsistent graphite quality. Fun video, thanks!

A follow-up video is a good idea and I appreciate your advice regarding features to pay attention to. My tastes are not very refined when it comes to wooden pencils but I was still surprised that I didn't experience a bigger difference in writing experience. I'm going to try to use these two pencils exclusively for taking notes and journaling over the next few days. This is going to be difficult though...I'm expecting a mechanical pencil in the mail tomorrow. 😊

Actually, I liked the DelGuard so much that I ordered the 0.7 version. (I also ordered a pink limited edition Snoopy Delguard but it's not scheduled to arrive until next month...it is so cute!)

I suggest you buy a Mitu Bishi KH20 - quite expensive but it gives great results. A wonderful pencil sharpener.

Respectfully, I’m wondering if at the time of this video you had not had a lot of experience with fine wooden pencils. If the Japanese saw you compare such a great pencil to a generic yellow #2 they might resort to self-deletion. 😂 To experience the subtle nuances of fine pencils you need to handle many types and then things start to make more sense. Thanks for the video though I enjoyed watching it.

You make a good point. To this day I'm sure I couldn't tell the difference between these two pencils, but I rarely use wooden pencils. However I've used fountain pens daily over several years and I've noticed my tastes have become more refined, and like you mentioned, I can detect those subtle differences. Thanks for your patience. I know this video had to be mind numbing for anyone who knows anything about these types of pencils. 😀
