Reminds me of my old 2000 4x4 F-150 Lariat I had in 2018. That thing was mint. I raced a guy with a 2017 F-150 and although I lost the race that thing kept up WAAAAAY better than even my passenger expected let alone me LOL. We were heading to work that day at the factory in New Albany we worked at and I had just filled up my tank at the BP off the highway.. Those were the days...

I had an '00 F150 with the 5.4 and it would downshift hard whenever I was moving and wanted to speed up quickly. But it never had a problem with the proper shifting. Only had it for 10 months as I had to get a Ford Focus SE for commute to Boston for school. Had I not gone that route as far as commuting, I'd probably still have that truck and it'd be approaching to 200k by now.

The 5.4s got the E4OD/4R100s, and it's a great question. Most 4r70ws have a much cleaner shift but old 4r100s have that long shift. I once asked about this on a forum and got the response "stop beating your truck and driving so hard". Super helpful (sarcasm) but also the Wrong answer as a transmission shouldn't shift like that. We may never know

Jmod the 4R70 and you won’t have that issue. Seriously the best mod I’ve done is a Jmod on my 4R75. Much better/faster shifts.

My parents had a 2000 XLT 5.4 back in about 2003 when I was a kid and my mom regularly drove it at 85-90 mph daily. It was pretty quick back in its day.

@@davebrackney963 My buddy had the early 3.5 Ecoboost in his F150 and the thing didn’t pass 130K before turbo seals went and before that it was constant issues. Nothing can compare to the older V8s 3V triton included.
