That's some impressive miles! And if you NEED to drive a truck everywhere that's great, but the thing that gets me is the cost of gas over that period. At $2.50 gas and 15 mpg, you're looking at $80k! If you got 30 mpg you'd have saved 40k!? That's why I say get an old truck for hauling and leave it parked, and drive a car. Unless your ego depends on driving a truck ;) Edit: or if you just like paying extra to drive a truck that's fine too, just make sure you don't end up broke with no retirement because of it!

I bought a used 2020 XLT with the naturally aspirated 3.3. Had 19k miles on it. I've put about 900 miles on it and it's making a weird noise at idle sometimes. It's not a metal to metal sound and it sounds like it's coming from the intake. With a stethoscope I can hear it through the passenger side head. It's a low tone thumping sound, gets quieter when warm and goes away when revved. Can hear it in cab sometimes. Engine has good oil pressure and no overheating. Averaging 22 to 23 mpg. Plenty of power. Smooth running. With mechanics stethoscope it is more noticeable in the cat's and the intake. Barely hear it through the oil pan or bottom end. Any ideas? I really like this truck. I have not had it long but it feels solid and runs out great. Noises haven't changed for the short time I've had it. Its been on 5 150 mile trips with no problems. I even got 25 mpg driving 60 to 65 mph. I like this truck so much that if it was a major problem that required the engine to be replaced I would do it and keep it. Any ideas about the noise? Thanks for your time. PS the previous owner changed oil every 9k miles with a valvoline oil filter. I immediately changed it with Mobile 1 full synthetic and a motorcraft oil filter. 2010 sport trac 4.6 3 valve modular engine, 480k km's on it and timing chain and lifters/rockers just starting to wear out. That's pretty good in my book, chain kit with phasers guides ect go for $280 for decent ones and rockers are $16 each, that and new gaskets call her good for another 300k km's . Good milage, more than enough power and fun to drive, cheaper to fix her than spend >$ 80k for new truck.

I have a 2012 F-150 4x4 with the 5L engine with just under 60,000 miles on it. It's just now broken in good. I've made a few minor modifications to the engine, nothing crazy. The best thing I've added to the engine was an oil separator on the right side. It works very well and my throttle body and intake stay much cleaner. I'm pretty sure the back side of the intake valves are happy too. This Ford truck has out done by far all of those other Chevy trucks I used to own.

Worse gas mileage on ethanol? I don’t care if it’s peanut butter as long as it will combust at 87 octane you’ll get the same gas mileage no matter what you use. This is what happens when we don’t teach our kids enough science they start spouting off a bunch of nonsense.

Fords 10 speed trans is the best trans FORD has ever came out with! I work at FORD, the only reason people have problems with the 10 speed trans is because they arent used to the shorter gears and shifts. After 20+ years of people driving a 6 speed long obviously its going to take time getting used too. But overall its solid and everyone is using their 10 speed design 🤷🏽♂️
