Gods, there us just something done right about the screen play. Methinks it the mix of the vilagers almsot aggressive 'kindness' and the MCs inherent naivety that I can almost smell something wrong. Very interesting usage of the Fool arcana, the subversion of the metaphor of personal journey and the glee towards adventure to a descent into an almost fanatical crusade born from a violent shift in world view and morality. I really can't tell what the higher deities were thinking. Casting Cross down like this, punishing her with the very transgression she made feels like a nonsensical breach of rules that were clearly put into place for a reason. Makes you think whether her descent into zealous fevor, a God faced with the innate flaws of humanity, is that very reason no God is allowed to get too close to humans in the first place.
