I was able to get to 225 wpm in a year, and I believe I was able to progress that quickly because I had the habit of READING my notes, sometimes reading notes more than taking dictation. When I was a working reporter, I was able to get warmed up simply by reading notes, too. Something magical happens in the brain when you actually look at the steno strokes on the screen (or in my case paper, as I was a reporting student back in 1973 before computer-aided transcription).

So read the outlines on my book? (STENED)

@@littlebentsen6335 I'm not familiar with your book, but if it's steno outlines I guess that would work. Better are paper notes or raw notes on the screen, though.

Obviously late here, but thanks so much for this interview. There are so many channels on here of enthusiastic people going through court reporting school and when I look at the whole of their content, I keep finding that none of them graduated, which is disappointing. I was hoping to hear from someone who had success getting to 225wpm!

I'm envious of Michaella. I'm taking an at-home steno course through Auburn U., because there are no brick-and-mortar steno schools within doable driving distance from me. While I'm enjoying it and do feel like I'm making okay progress, I very strongly feel that I'd be making much better progress with some solid regimented in-person schooling.

Did you end up finishing? And was it CRAH?
@AlexDanielCPhT
@AlexDanielCPhT 20 күн бұрын
@@emilykim1753 I did not finish. I threw in the towel after about 9 months because it was simply too difficult for me. There is a happy ending, though: Days after I gave up (in March 2023), I enrolled in a Pharmacy Technician trade school (Martinez Adult Education), and exactly 6 months and 1 week later, I passed the national certification exam, and I now work full-time post-retirement as a hospital pharmacy technician. I'm happy.

29:25 Ah piano gang represent! I'm glad to hear that having piano experience helps - this gives me more motivation to learn steno myself. :)

Thank you, Lady Steno! Great job, Michaella! I'm a self-study student, so some of the terms of yout time in school, were over my head. I'll get there with the mindset of, "It's doable."

Thank you for doing this interview! I appreciated the Canadian perspective and the perspective of someone who succeeded with a “long” theory! I’m from Toronto, Canada, which is even further away than your guest, but I had REALLY wanted to attend this school! Unfortunately, relocation wasn’t possible for me. I’m so glad you’ve continued to provide steno-related content online. I used to watch your KZbin channel back when you first created your channel. Keep up the good work!

Thank you!! As much as I love writing short, I think it's important to recognize that there are many successful professionals who used a "long" theory.
