I'm buying a house in Sicily. The prices are so cheap. I'll be flying there the beginning of February to sign the deeds. Thank you so much for your videos. I'm super excited about getting over there.

Alfred, I just finished watching the You Tube video that you did at the Lawrence, Mass. library about your book, Gaetano's Trunk. It was very moving and as you mentioned about New Orleans, my hometown, there were many Sicilians that came to New Orleans. Between 1884 and 1924 there were over 80,000. My father came here in 1906 from Gibellina, Sicily. If you ever have the chance to come to New Orleans, I would like for you to visit our Italian-American Museum and perhaps pitch your story about the Sicilian Project. Keep doing your work on this very important project. There is a great book about the Italians of Louisiana, "Bread and Respect" by A.V. Margavio and Jerome J. Salomone.

Alfred, the person that you would have to make contact with at the Italian American Museum here in New Orleans would be Sal Serio. He has done a lot of research about Sicily.

Ciao e grazie mille per questo video. Going for 4-5 days, landing in Catania and flying out from Palermo. Not renting a car. What are the top towns, attractions and villages to see/visit you mentioned? Please advise if we should stay in Catania and Palermo then do day trips. Vi ringrazio per vostro commenti e suggerimenti.

CD You misunderstood my comments. Taormina has a rich history and a fantastic place. That said, is is NOT quintessential Sicily. Taormina is a tourist destination. To find the essence of Sicily, visit the mountain villages and the small communities. Only then will you truly understand.

I am worried, you didn't mention August!!!! I am going in August.I have been watching your videos to be prepare for my trip. We are going to Trapani, Palermo and Siracuse (10 day trip).

I went in August with my family in August 2011 and we had a fabulous time. In Palermo, there may be reduced hours for the touristy places, but the botanical gardens and the Villaro markets were open and wonderful. Siracusa is touristy so everything is open. We did go inland to Caccamo and got a feel for the REAL Sicilian life. The trees and plants are flourishing, the food is fabulous, and Etna simmers no matter when you go. Enjoy!

Thanks. It would be great if you create a video for those who do not know how to drive. I am planning to do all my visits using public transportation and friend of mine told me that it would be a real challenge.

hello! I am planning a littler retreat for women writers... end of next may. I was wondering if I could pick you brain around locations. I want quaint and real. I want to be close to sacred temples. I want to give them a true sicilian experience that is about connecting to the beauty of this island. Thank you!

I really disagree about debit cards…. They give bad rates and very high fees You can order euros from the bank. (I use B of a ). They do give you the best rates and almost no fees. You also can get pretty good rates from some “travel” credit cards Do not bring dollars to Europe… there are very few places to exchange them… bad rates and high fees
@YouMeandSicily2 жыл бұрын
True they have gotten better over the years. Still best to bring euros in case bankomat runs out of money.

Appreciate the tips, but the comment regarding Middle Eastern migrants wearing suicide vests was completely uncalled for and perpetuates the phobia against Muslims. The statement was also inaccurate, as these Middle Eastern migrants are mostly fleeing from war and are seeking refuge for their families. You seem like good and fun people so I’m sure your comment wasn’t intended to come off disrespectful, but it did, so I hope you consider more inclusive words next time. Thanks again for the travel tips.
@YouMeandSicily5 жыл бұрын
Of course not. Remember this was almost 3 years ago when IEDs were being used in Syria . I was careful to point out that migrants are,as a rule here for economic reasons and looking for a better life. Sorry is you were offended. Sicily is perhaps one of the most inclusive places in Europe..
