A Pretty powerful position , when you have production design also building the look and palate with the director and dp .

I always wonder where the professional colorist create their LUTs, do they just use davinci tool box like colour wheels, curves, etc, or do they use a specific software? You mentioned you use resolve Fusion to create your LUTs and you might use some coding. Do you have any content online that goes into this topic in depth? Thank you

I wondered the same thing for a long time. There are not that many ressources to learn stuff like that. I recommend searching the internet for information, buying books and using paid websites or classes like mixing light and demystify colorgrading for example. I also recommend reading Steve Yedlin's paper: "on color science". Back to your question, I would say commonly used software is: Lattice for exporting and editing LUTs, Fusion and even more prominently nuke, in nuke for example you can measure pixel values for curves to create accurate FPEs. Some Color-Scientists use Matlab as far as I know. As for grading practices most of this knowledge is not that important in my opinion because it takes a lot of knowledge and time to learn it and in the end creating a sophisticated FPE Lut using a chart, lightmeter, film stocks, arri skypanel, densitometer, spectrophotometer... is just too much work for most people and most projects, unless you work in the film industry. You can use DCTLs and scripts in nuke and resolve like Tetra (different versions: tetra, tetra v2, tetraInterpBlackpoint) and Paul Dore's or thatcher freeman's free DCTL library in combination with nuke's curves maybe for split toning and contrast curves. To code Scripts and DCTLs like these however you not only have to know how to code but also some color-science and math like delauney trangulation, vectors, matrices, barycentric coordinates, tetrahederal and trilinear interpolation. (Not to keen on most of these concepts either just the basics) You might know all of this already but this is just something I wish someone told me before I invested so many months looking into that topic ;). So maybe this helps! EDIT: Back on DCTL learning journey and starting to code my own DCTLs and reading some color science books. I would recommend: measuring colour, RWG Hunt 3rd edition, Colour Reproduction in Electronic Imaging Systems: Photography, Television, Cinematography. For FPE and negative emulation one can look into scattered data interpolation using MATLAB, matrices (tetrahederal interpolation) in different color models/spaces like spherical, HSV, LUV. DCTLs are quite powerful as far as I know aswell and are used by some color scientist in the industry.
