I have an early Panhead engine restamped as a 41EL Knucklehead that came with a stock spring fork. I always suspected that it may have started life as a 1948 engine but can't remember what the belly number said. If i can crawl back there maybe i can put a magnet on the cam cover to see if it has the early-mid 1948 steel welsh plug. It's been buried in the back of my shed for 30 years. 😮

They didn't go to 12 volt until 65. 64 Duo Glide is a 6 volt system. 65 Electra Glide used 12 volts.

Sorry man, we don’t rehearse these videos and it’s hard for me to keep on top of everything as I am trying to deliver a lot of information, but you are correct. The model 64,65 and 65A generators were the first 12V systems employed by the motor company, and what I was referring to and did not correctly explain was the shift from 1/4” mounting holes to 5/16” bolts in 57, when they did away with the generator support boss on the new -58 right side case. Most people associate the larger diameter bolt with the later 12V systems, which is probably why I made the mistake. That or the 5 vodka tonics I had before we started taping 🤷🏼♂️😜
