Fantastic score from a fantastic composer........The best man ever to write music for Bond......Amazing how much music John Barry composed for the Bond films and every note is a masterpiece......RIP maestro

One of the best scenes and pieces of music out of any of the Bond films.

if music was a royal united kingdom hand made rolls royce ,, this is the track think barry may have been inspired by Holst "neptune " i always believe george martin was involved whereby paul mc cartney constructed ,, & recorded the bass line onto vinyl clearly the vinyl is a masterpiece that is perhaps impossible to duplicate or better

Hauntingly beautiful, and great for the scene where everyone finds out the stolen diamonds have been used to create a giant laser in space.

Beautiful. Sounds like the sister of Capsule in Space from YOLT

Yes! Recently, I've been telling anybody who will listen that there's a gorgeous symmetry between Capsule in Space, 007 and Counting, and Flight Into Space. You can really hear a strong feeling of paranoia in Capsule, which lessens as you progress towards Flight, mirroring society's own paranoia transforming into understanding. All three sound in awe of the greatness of space, but the dominant feeling gradually moves from 'fear' to 'beauty'.

There´s also a nice cover of this track, called Other World, by a band called Jakatta.

Given that a sense of the sublime is present in different ways among this, Capsule in Space, and Flight into Space, it's little surprise that one of John Barry's favorite composers was Gustav Mahler, whose music can reach sublime cosmic heights in contemplating the "big questions." In Barry's "Desert Island Disc" interview from 1999, he cited a recording of Mahler's Ninth, his last completed symphony, considered by some (such as Leonard Bernstein) a foreshadowing of what the 20th century would bring. So if you like the aforementioned Barry pieces, give that a listen... and maybe the end of Mahler's Second Symphony ("Resurrection") alongside Flight into Space.

Yes, Barry used his themes/motifs throughout the films. The space theme does appear in YOLT, DAF, and MOONRAKER. My favorite Barry motif was the descending four notes that Barry used for ski chase scenes. Unfortunately for us, Barry was only involved in two films that had a ski/snow chase (OHMSS and AVTAK). I found it so wonderful that 16 long years after OHMSS, Barry brought back those four descending notes. There I was sitting in the theater for A VIEW TO A KILL saying to myself, "Oh my God, it's the OHMSS ski theme again!" And, yes,I am still bummed out that Barry didn't score FOR YOUR EYES ONLY and its snow scenes.

26 or so Bond films, and this scene with this music has to rank as one of my favorite moments in all the films. The moment when the satellite opens up and Barry's music hits the gong always takes my breath away. 1:03 in the above vid.

Yeah there’s a wonderful accuracy the way that gong muted at the end of the note - and the whole score has a kind of gorgeous “dry” reverb. Sooo magical.

I know John Barry is always smiling down on you guys. Excellent! Love the jazzy, lounge, Vegas vibe. I was in Vegas with my parents in 1972. I was humming the soundtrack walking through the Circus Circus! I even played the water balloons!

This performance goes to show that if you have an ensemble with the right instrumentation and written arrangements, you can mimic the sound of a larger orchestra with no trouble at all. John Barry might have used a larger orchestra on 007 And Counting (especially with the strings)but he probably used an ensemble with the same number of musicians as this one. Bravo! Well done!😎👏👍🎷❤️
