when i was a kid the console was just georgeous, later i got it emulated on PC, Android and wii and it doesn't taste the same, the childhood is one of our best time in life

Looking back on this, I would like to mention that if anyone thinks I did not time the gameplay bit correctly, I did. I lined them up exactly at the same spot but the emulator does everything faster even though it was claiming to be running at the original speed. This may be due to an emulator not suffering the same slow-downs that the N64 had. It is most apparent with the opening "gun barrel" bit. This is why again I believe the best way to play these games is to play them as intended.

Project 64 and Mupen64 are buggy and slow. Lot of sound glitch and fast forward intro. Nintendo should be develop and release the Nintendo 64 Classic Edition.

Yes, but since golden eye was made by rare it won't be on a classic edition. And the Emulation Project of nintendo have a much easier task to do, instead of trying to emulate every N64 game they just have to make patches so that 20 of the chosen game have to run on the emulator. And even then emulation of the N64 isn't an easy thing to do since the hardware has to offer alot more then the previous classic editions.

If they do they either update or change the controller

It's an interesting comparison. The PJ64 emulator runs slightly faster and at a higher resolution. The frame rate might be improved as well, but I'd need to see actual measurements to be sure. The original N64 looks smoother, perhaps a bit blurrier, but that is how the system looked in real life. Of course, playing on CRT is the best option. I used to play on PJ64 years ago on PC. It was good for what it was, but it was never fully accurate. The hardware was just too complicated to be recreated perfectly. But they certainly did try and the efforts are pretty good. I'm frankly surprised that nobody has done a better job recreating N64. With today's computers, I would expect emulation to be a snap. Oh, well.

What are your opinions based on first-hand experience with both the original and the emulator?

+GymGyp The N64 version plays the best and the animations feel right. The PJ64 version may look a bit sharper and detailed (even though I kept both rendered at 480 for fair comparison) but I noticed that the emulated version seems to be... faster? Strangely the emulated version everything seemed a bit faster and it is proven by comparing the times. It took a LONG time to record the same demo footage as you need to completely restart the game (even in the emulator) and go through the title sequence for it to play, and there a dozen or so demos picked at random and recording them both was a pain. Gameplay wise, the emulator still played like the original but animations were a bit faster, and it was not the result of configuration, but I think it is because it may have been programmed to run based on the N64's hardware speeds. In the end, the originals are always the best way to play, and even better when played on a CRT display.

I played it once and it did seem a little quirky. The controller is weird, too. The ones that are built like the 64 controllers but go specifically only into computers have really over-sensitive joysticks! I sold the n64 a while back because I would play it so rarely, it made no sense to keep it. I might just settle for the emulated versions since I play them once in a blue moon anymore. What is CRT display?

Hi nice video, was the Nintendo 64 footage running on RF cable, AV leads or S-video?

I play golden eye now on a n64. Its very slow like 15 fps most of the time. On emulator it is smooth, but authentic+crt is always the way to go for me.

I wish you uploaded in 16:9 to be mobile friendly and so you could fit the entire screen of both platforms

Blank Blank I did this to provide a direct split comparison of the exact same events. It took a lot of resets to get the exact same demo to show up. I also kept it 4:3 to preserve original quality and 480 to keep the original resolution intact.
