I feel like early 360/PS3 era games had a really hard time with making people who looked like people and not half-melted wax monstrosities. I think devs were finding their footing with new graphics techniques while last gen developers could just slap a decent texture on a low poly model.

Even considering the smoothing done by the emulator, it's still pretty good. I just had a peek at gameplay on the original console, and it looks about as well as GTA IV on lower graphic settings. Definitely close to xbox 360 graphics.

The gameplay's good, the story is "bond", the gunplay is decent to good, the controls are smooth. All in all it's a great 3rd-person stealth-shooter, especially for 2008. And who knows, if it didn't flop and maybe came out a year earlier, so at the same time as the 1st uncharted, we might have ourselves a new Bond video game offspring every second year. Hell, i wouldn't complain about that.

I remember growing up with the Wii version of this game so when I went out shopping, I saw the PS2 version and bought it for $2.00 so I could relive that good old nostalgia. I had no idea that the PS2 was a third person shooter and so I was in for quite a suprise when bond spawned in third person

One thing I always found interesting about this game was that the cutscenes are so much better than their PS3/360 counterparts. You can tell real effort went into the editing, shot composition and animations themselves to make them play out like an actual movie rather than a static and clunky FMV.

2 things. 1) the longer length was so welcomed. You have interesting insight, I wouldn't still be here if you didn't. I don't know about anyone else but the nostalgia hits you have are very similar to mine, and the way you examine games by bouncing back and forth between nostalgia and a more critical perspective is well paced and fun to follow. 2) Please do a Nightfire review. I had it on gamecube and it rocked my world. I haven't played it in like 12 years. Your silky smooth voice plus that game would be amazing.

Played this back in 2008 and it was awesome. So essentially this game is a successful "demake" of a game since they had to rebuilt most of the assets.

A very insightful analysis of the Quantum of Solace games. Having two development teams (sort of) sharing assets does create two nice but different games. I played the N64 and PS1 versions of The World is not Enough and a similar strategy appears to have been used. It was an entertaining watch. Thanks.

Gaming Exhibit I liked that there was 2 different versions of the same game. I would like to see modern game developers do something like that so each version would play to the individual consoles strengths, but no everything has to be the same because of Fear of Missing Out. The N64 and Ps1 were so different, you can tell just by playing the cross platform games and you can see loads of little and big differences, us gamers dont really have that anymore and I miss it.

I've never heard anyone criticize "Nightfire" tbh. I've only heard people saying "Best Bond game EVAR!!!!!!" or "Just as good as Goldeneye." I liked the PC port. The console versions were mostly "Meh" to me.

I know its being emulated and upscale, but this game looks good for PS2. I remember playing this as a kid on both my 360 and my PS2 and I liked the PS2 version better, however my favorite 007 game was 007 Everything or Nothing. You should check it out!

I agree with these rest of the other people saying this version is better than the 360/PS3 version. The PS2 version feels more like a true Bond game. I personally prefer Bond in 3rd person. The ps2 version feels more of a true prequal to Blood Stone if that makes sense.

I actually like the in-game cutscenes. They were a lot more dynamic than their contemporaries and when playing upscaled versions of both, look much better than the pre-rendered ones.

I guess they didn't use the main game prerendered cut scenes because the decor and layouts of the locations might not match how they were made in the PS2 game. So they just went in game to keep them matching as opposed to using old or even making new pre renders.

The best I think we can hope for is a Terminator Resistance style game with a similar budget. Which hey, even if the game is otherwise mediocre, if they can capture the spirit of the ip like that game apparently does, I think many would be very happy with that.

I worked on the Forza Horizon games and the differences in time locales between developer and publisher really made it tricky. WAR bug reviews starting at 7pm for eg (that would have then had to be fixed or pushed for the build that night).

What I like about Quantum of Solace's game ports along with EA's The Simpsons game, each platform it reached are all different. For Quantum of Solace, all the genres of gameplay are different in their own ways. The Simpsons game all had different unique box art for their different game platforms.

I think not using the PS3 cutscenes is also an artistic decision, because when the cutscene suddenly looks 10 times better than the game it breaks the graphicals style. I cant remember any game right now which uses completly different cutscene graphics, maybe CoD, but most other games stick to their style

i remember finding this game on a hidden clearance shelf at my local target like a year after it came out. it was just after most stores stopped stocking PS2 games in those cases and just threw what they had left on a shelf somewhere. 15 bucks well spent for sure

I always wondered if an Uncharted-like game could really be doable on the system PS2. Uncharted's movement and exploration style was actually done quite faithfully on PS2 before Uncharted released via Tomb Raider: Anniversary (summer 2007 release). Clearly the shooting element was emulated by this game. Only thing this really needed was better actual mechanics. Quite a fantastic looking PS2 game, especially with the bells and whistles of emulation working in it's favor.
