Actually this should be an idea for Victorinox itself, to put a sliding mechanism into the scale so you could store the micro sd more easily into the scale. Great idea btw MeZillch. Love you Victorinox and tools constructions!

Amazing that you can achieve such an perfect fit of the SD-card, awesome use of space! Not so concealed in the ruby colored plus scales though... Thanks for the video! P.S. Felix Immler uses the "hidden" plus-compartment for a shortened toothpick (his video shows how to do that) and keeps the Firefly ferrorod full-size.

Sounds like a good idea but I make my own "fireflies" and carry them in my knives elsewhere. Going Gear used to sell what they called "mouse" fire steel/ferro rods. They were only $1 plus shipping.

What did in the Russian spy in the 50's carrying a microfilm dot in a coin was that he mixed it up with other coins and he spent it. A kid then came into possession of the coin from some transaction, accidentally dropped it on hard pavement, it cracked open, and he reported what he discovered to the FBI.

Another reader says the very short, diagonal pathway is opened up for use of an extra short length of tweezers used only in the upscale SAKs with electronics on one side (altimeter or digital clock) since there is no room for any scale tools on that side so they are instead all condensed to one side.

In what situation would a swiss army knife ever be a safer place to hide data than just having a usb in your pocket? I don't feel there's a situation where someone would carry out a search of your person, and not also just confiscate the SAK for being a potential weapon.
@MeZillch3 жыл бұрын
If the FBI or police arrest you in your home or office and have a search warrant to confiscate your digital devices. SAKs are not illegal where I live and after a cursory examination to determine it was not a USB device I'm confident they'd have no reason confiscate it.

I mean, I'm relatively sure the FBI probably knows that the scales come off a Victorinox knife. But this is actually seriously useful for "forget it until you need it" storage of documents. If you always have your Victorinox Companion with you (and you should anywhere you're legally permitted to), you'll have those files in a fairly robust form factor. What I'd use it for? ONE (of several) copies of my critical personal information. Medical records, insurance documents, photo evidence to go along with the insurance showing products, receipts, etc. Copies of digital photos I'd selected as "don't want to lose these ever", crypto key revocations generated in advance, that sort of thing. Emphasis on several copies. If my home burns to the ground or is destroyed by flood, earthquake, volcanic eruption, alien invasion, whatever … if I wasn't home, I'd have those documents and photos. Sure, at least one of the copies I'd absolutely have in an encrypted file stored "in the cloud", and of course I have those files at home. But that's three copies in potentially three locations using three different mediums. Can something destroy all three copies at once? YES! But that's far less likely to happen. And why not just keep it in my little microSD wallet card, since I absolutely have one of those? Because I recycle those microSD cards and their contents all the time. They're disposable and disposed of regularly, and sometimes when you're protecting your emergency resources secreted upon your person, you're protecting them from your own poor choices in the moment. I can pry the scales off my SAK with the scale removal tool (read: "toothpick"), but I don't. Just like a piece of Rite-in-the-Rain paper with phone numbers on it is a good thing to keep inside your phone case. You take your phone out of its case how often?

@@MeZillch They will confiscate any tool with an edged blade. Yes, SAK-branded keyfobs with only a storage device are immune, but real knives aren't. I have seen bundles of once-confiscated knives for sale on EBay. One can surmise these are offered by off duty TSA agents. Often the picture includes a bright red swiss army looking knife, but it's usually mixed with a score of Chinese-made knives of every sort. I've been tempted to try this Pig in a Poke, but haven't gone for it yet. The Enlarge Image function seems not to work [curiously] on these offerings.
@MeZillch2 жыл бұрын
@@HootOwl513 "They" will confiscate any tool with an edged blade? Considering the TSA is perfectly happy seeing people openly carry MicroSDXC cards, as many as they want, why would you think the organization I'm hiding this data from is the TSA? They have no beef with people carrying data cards so I'd have no reason to hide it from them. I never said "this is good for air travel". If I get picked up walking the streets by the FBI, however, this might be handy. It is legal to walk on the street (where I live at least) carrying a closed Swiss army knife in my pocket and when they release me after questioning they'd give the knife back to me.
@StarDarkAshes4 жыл бұрын
It’s too bad that they don’t make the Swisspocket which has the sliding drawer. There’s one customizer that makes foldout “drawers” you can put whatever you want. Personally I would put my drugs inside.

Do you know what will happen to you in some states if you are caught out with lock picking tools, let alone concealed ones? You WILL be *Arrested* and charged with possession of *Burglary Tools* Intent comes into it in most places, but in lots of other places, it is prima facie evidence of intent to commit a crime. Getting yourself busted while playing "James Bond" is a lot less fun if you wind up with a rap sheet, and I don't mean music. (This from a former apprentice locksmith, by the way.) Like the videos, but be careful what you wish for, you could find genuine trouble with hidden lock picks. There won't be any director to holler Cut!" before they book you.
