You have to remember this is a little time after bond got his 00 license, literally a rookie in his first, major, important mission. His success or failure would greatly define his career in the eyes of MI6. He was unexperienced, brash, impulsive, egotistical (more than usual) and arrogant, to the point of not giving a damn about the repercussions and wanting to shiv le chiffre out of anger. He commited some rookie mistakes: drank the poisoned martini, lost the bet, got caught and was at the mercy of le chiffre, and so on, somebody always came and bailed him out of his mistakes. He learned his trade on a trial by fire, and got lucky.

@@Matt90Nine While I understand and appreciate your point, I still think it's ironic. Because you would expect the hero to be morally different from the villain, yet he does the same exact thing as Chiffre does when he loses everything. So the irony is that when the chips are down, our beloved hero is as bad as the villain. "Nobody is sat around talking about the irony of Iron Man murdering terrorists, because it isn't ironic", I agree, but if Iron Man threatened and attempted to kill the terrorsists' families, it would be ironic because he's acting like a terrorist himself. That's what Bond's doing; he is resorting to violence, attacking Chiffre and possibly his girlfriend for extra pressure, which was the same exact thing Chiffre does in the end. And Bond's demeanour during the scene clearly exhibits this act was out of pure rage and helplessness rather than a thought out plan. In that moment, he has become the villain and I deem that ironic.
@sobiru51893 жыл бұрын
@@Matt90Nine I have to disagree. I don't believe that scene in particular is within Bond's character at all. You can tell by the way he talks to the bartender as well. He's clearly on tilt from losing all his chips to a bad beat and being outplayed, he can't buy-in again, and he's going after a well-protected "bad guy" with only a kitchen knife and 0 backup plans. He's clearly rushing it, and would've been most definitely dead if Felix hadn't stopped him. You say nothing is surprising to the audience in that scene, but I think it is. He is out of line.

Now when I see this scene, I see "Vesper's" reaction in a different light. She wouldn't be that angry and Upset on Bond losing, as she was working for "Quantum". At this point in time in the movie, her actual job is very clear cut. Everything is ok if Bond loses....and in case he wins, gain his trust, and get the money back to "Quantum" which ultimately is sub group under "SPECTRE".

That’s my one critique of an otherwise perfect film. I would’ve preferred if Bond had a two pair and then Le Chiffe managed a three of a kind. It would’ve felt more realistic.

At 3:05 when Bond sees Le Chiffre & Co., I'm confused, does he see something particularly alarming there or does he just want to dispose of Le Chiffre right then and there out of anger so he takes the table knife to try and kill him with it.

@elasticater84293 жыл бұрын
He knows that Le Chiffre will win the game and get the money, and use it to fund terrorism. That will not happen if he is dead. Bond has lost the game, but his mission is to stop Le Chiffre. He's failed option A, time for option B.

I don’t think he was aware of bond’s location when he got kidnapped. Also it’s possible he was looking for le chifre at the time but escaped and that’s when Vesper was kidnapped. There was no one to take in at the end since le chifre was killed.
