All hail the king of power. My favourite surfer as a grom, I just idolised the bloke. Still do. It's still how I perceive real surfing, airs seem to be taking over the pro tour but for me tearing the shite out of a wave with style, power and fluidity will always be better.

it was location dependent. occ's very arguably the greatest in reeling, sizable right points. put him on a right beachie, or slab & it doesn't translate.

even to this day no one comes even close to occy when he was on. His backhand bottom turn to top turn crazy turns when he was on and when his whole body is lying in the water in a turn no one comes close. You look at any goofy footer or any natural footer even on tour now cant surf as good as this. To this day noone has the originalty and power crazy turns like occy.

@@Jakepaterson69 Occy should have been rewarded for the amazing originality and power who know one could match when he was on. I would have been screaming like you guys as its just pure original power awesomness. Bruce was great but was not awesomely amazing nice and delicate. I have always been against the judging scoring system it's gotten better but I still hate it also style , power and flow should be number one. Airs are great but it depends on the actual wave.

Chris S modern surfers are not modern! They are replicating the past. I saw Occy do a tail high frontside air in 84. Shane Herring was doing huge front 3’s. Christian Fletcher was going ballistic in the late 80’s. Gary Cruikshank from Narrabeen was doing huge Stale’s from 82-87. Now he is the air coach for Hurley. Nothing new now dude coz skateboarding has influenced this shit for years!
