well according to a video they used frame motion, and then they took beats and rethemes they created in a synthesizer put that in, and made a beat/song out of it, and essentially just (with a lot of tediousness) made the animation flow fluidly with the frame motion tracking, and with the music utilized as the "tracking" essentially it animated itself! the rest was up to movement and flow. but yeah I can imagine since I'm also an animator and into now 3D modeling; now-a-days it's become more technically simplistic what they called "simplicity" back 10 years ago is nothing like todays! So I can imagine even if with motion tracking and synthesized music to guide the animation, it's just the mere fact of the 3D models to create, the music to create, and the constant flow to keep it that way that would feel like forever lol

How those of you who are always asking why this hasn't been built when we have the technology... It's not that we don't, it would just take a shit-ton of processing power to be able to control that much robotics (A supercomputer, thereabouts), and that's without the calculation concerning error, AND being able to maintain the machine so it continues to run as it should.

There could be a ball-shaped magnet in the pipe, being pushed around by hydraulic systems. Each drummer has their own system, but the position will be controlled by a central "brain" wirelessly communicating with the drummers. The tech is there now, we don't need so many servos. Just to control the arms. For more info, check out DIY Perks' "silent fan" video (relatively recent)

any CNC enabled factory is far more complex than this and it can be run from a rather poultry computer. The reason why it hasn't been built is the profit motive. Sometimes I think it's easy to forget that originally these were just a group of drummers just playing. It's so amazing the skill and talents of all of those who were involved in this. I like to imagine that in the recording studio it was just a circle of drum kits and those guys were just having the time of their lives.
@atlassolid59469 ай бұрын
it wasn't. Wayne Lytle explains in the director's commentary how Animusic works; all of the drum triggers for this song were mapped to several keyboards and fed into a MIDI program, and the MIDI file actually creates the animation using proprietary software.
@senorpurpleskull38629 ай бұрын
@@atlassolid5946 aww that's a bit disappointing. Still definitely took a lot of creativity. I think maybe at the very least it started as two drummers just messing around.

@@senorpurpleskull3862 i don't know if they had any drummers at Animusic Studios. from the director's commentary, it really seems like it was mainly just Wayne and Dave who worked on the music/animation using MIDI and their own programs, although they did have other employees at the studio at the time. They do say that Dave and Wayne are the ones who compose the music for every song, so who knows; it could be that some ideas started on a real drumset, it could not.

The sheer size and scope of something that intence would be the largest headache to write for let alone to have to direct it. You would have to have the mallet percussion and other orchestral staples, but it could end up being the greatest piece of music of all time.
