I’m going to start with Glyphs Mini and see how it goes. I know it doesn’t have some of the features of the ‘Pro’ version, but my first attempt is pretty straightforward. Oh, and hi from Mississauga.

@@mtlreiner so close to home! It's a great idea to get started with Mini, but just be mindful that many of the features used here might not work. It gives you a good intro to the software and process in any case. Happy fonting!

Hi Kevin! Would you recommend a good book to start this beautiful world? Thank you for these super useful video!

Hi Ermanno - my pleasure! I'm glad you find the videos helpful. Regarding type design books: I would recommend Gerard Unger's "Theory of type design" www.amazon.com/Theory-Type-Design-Gerard-Unger/dp/9462084408 to start with, and then follow up with his "While you're reading" www.amazon.ca/While-Youre-Reading-Gerard-Unger/dp/0976224518 not only to get started, but also throughout your whole journey of studying and practicing type design.

When I open Glyphs 3 for a new doc, it’s completely blank. There’s no shadow example letters/text. I’m assuming this is an easy fix and was wondering how to fix it?
@kevinking743 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how much I can help, as I am still working on Glyphs 2 at this time, and have not moved to Glyphs 3 yet. It could be that reinstalling Glyphs 3 may solve this, or restating your computer

@@kevinking74 thank you for the reply. I did manage to figure it out via a video. At least a work around.

Hello! Very helpful tutorial, thank you so much! Does anyone know where we can find font/ glyph notes in Glyphs 2?
@kevinking744 жыл бұрын
Glad you find it helpful! Regarding your question: all of the tutorials use Glyphs 2, with the release from about a year ago 🙂

@@kevinking74 Thank you for your answer still cannot find the notes :/ Online I only found them as a plug-in, is that what it is?
@kevinking744 жыл бұрын
@@konstantinapolytimi Ah, I understand your question Konstantina. The notes tool moved in Glyphs 2, and you must access it as a "custom parameter" in the "Font Info" panel. If you navigate to the Font Info, in the "Font" tab, select the "+" sign and scroll down to find the "note" field. If you click on this field, you will see a note custom parameter appear, and you can then click it to add notes to your font, inside the custom parameter field, or, inside the glyph drawing window. In the same panel you can also navigate to the "Note" tab (the tab furthest to the right), which you can enter notes in. glyphsapp.com/blog/new-features-in-glyphs-2-3. Hope this helps!

@@kevinking74 Perfect! I found them! Thanks! However, they only appear inside the font info panel, not in the glyph drawing window. I don't why, but it's ok! It works for me :)

@@konstantinapolytimi Excellent! Glad you found the font note tool! It is true that this font note tool only appears in the font info panel. I would have to ask Rainer or Georg about why this is, but there is another option: navigate to the font info panel, and go the "Font" tab> "custom parameter" area, and select the + button. In the list that will pop up, scroll to find "note". This is also a font note tool, but it should allow the font note to be available in the glyph drawing window.
