Looking back, this solution seems so obvious but I just think it took many years of dealing with trying to hide excess cable, manage slack, and even custom cable lengths per port, until I finally arrived at this technique. Enjoy!

After watching several of your videos I have decided to move over to modular patch panels. As our network evolves, I find myself having to re-patch cables in and our using our traditional patch panel. While it is going to take about an hour to terminate and install the new patch panel, it will definitely be a time saver! Thanks!

Hey so I'm 15 and basically I'm doing basically everything that you've been doing in your videos for my school and local businesses and just by watching your videos I've doubled if not tripled my productivity THANK YOU so much it's nice to know I'm not the only one

WTP Gaming I'm 16 and I'm interested in getting into networking as well. How did you start getting jobs? I don't even care if I get paid for them.

Why.. why... are 24 port switches all 2 rows of 12 ports either on the left or right hand side of the switch? If the switch manufactures would just make a single row of 24 ports it would make cable management so much easier.

I wondering what that little white device which connected to switch with a bit short cable and sits above the switch ? Great tip! get it

That's a device that manages Ubiquiti equipment so you don't have to use a PC connected to the network. Turns out the customer really didn't need it that much but I installed it just the same. Their network is pretty simple and could have probably just left it out. It's called the Ubiquiti Unifi Cloud Key - Remote Control Device. As of late, I've not needed to use them because of hosted cloud services that are able to control Unifi equipment remotely. But at the time it was a pretty cool device!

question. ive been watching a few of your videos and Im wondering. What is the best length for cables when there is 0 space between patch pannel and switch, 1U space between patch pannel and switch and 2U space between patch pannel and switch. We have alot of those 1 Ft cables and it has that bubbly effect when there is 0 space between and I was wondering if you could give me some insight. Also. that modular patch pannel. that silver one that you put in your own keystones in.. do you have a link to the one you use? thanks

+H&NKinsha It will all depend on the layout of the switch. Most 24 port switches look like this one and will require a different patch cable length then say a 48 port switch where the connections are more evenly spread out. Just experiment and see what best works for you. I like 6 inch patch cables with a 48 port switch with 24 port patch panels above and below. My 2 hour long video shows them toward the end.

Curious: What’s your backup if a cable accidentally gets disconnected- do you tag patch cables to ID what went where? Adhesive labels seem like the wrong tool for the job.

Great video ! Today Friday 07-07-2017 RCVD my Firefold 24-Port Patch Panel with the Keystone Jack Coupler Cat6 ! This looks great for a Home or Small Office ! The "Rack" tie down shelf just snapped into place on the Patch Panel ! (Am I over qualified ?) Now must pick up some Zip Ties and maybe a small rack... (A 15U will make a nice Coffee Table...) Thank you for the video ! tjl

I have a question. How to apply 3rs in network cabling??
@FiberNinjaStudios6 жыл бұрын
3rs? I'm not sure what that term means in this context.

Is it ok to use 20cm/6" Patch Cables?? I've heard they can cause packet loss or bounce back. Thanks

They work perfectly fine. There was an old Ethernet standard that is no longer valid that specified a minimum cable distance of around 3M. Mind you, that distance was from port to port and NOT the minimum patch cable length you were allowed. The older standard may have had technical issues where short cable lengths caused reflections or harmonics that affected throughput, but those days are long gone. I've seen cable lengths as short as 2 inches working with zero issues. I will mention this to you, I've heard many similar concerns about Ethernet cabling over the years. When this channel started getting big, these same myths started popping up again. So I've decided to put together a video here in the near future that will put all these myths to the test and settle things once and for all. I'm still working on all the details but I think it will be a great benefit to technicians that work around this equipment on a daily basis to know just how far things can be pushed and just how amazing Ethernet cabling really is! Stay tuned!!

what is this rack / type of rack called? I have network cabinet, but can't find solution simmilar to this
@FiberNinjaStudios3 жыл бұрын
In an earlier video, I show where I hand-built this rack. I purchased the rack rails from Guitar Center I think (might have been eBay though). Then used right angle brackets to mount inside of a well made wood cabinet in an overhead spot in this office. So, you'll never find this in a catalog!

Not a fan of short patch cords it makes life a hell when you try to service the patch panel.
@FiberNinjaStudios7 жыл бұрын
Stanila Stefan Check out some of my other videos about this. With short patch cables and lots of slack on the back, it's actually very easy to service. In fact, you don't even disconnect from the switch, just unscrew and rotate outward. Now the back on the panel is facing you and everything is still connected!

Far too time consuming. No pro does that. Prefab'ed patch cables are just too cheap and my time is worth more than that. It sounds great at first but there are a couple of problems with it. 1) those short minutes terminating raw ethernet cable will add up quickly. Next thing you know the day is over and all you did was make patch cables out of solid core cable that will be stiffer and not too keen on being moved around much. 2) Creating an array of custom patch cables essentially means your level of flexibility is reduced when you quickly learn that this patch cable array is constructed with very specific "non-transferrable" lines.
